Checking Frequency/Band Support
#1
I own a Cubot GT99 phone and I'm curious whether it supports American 2G network frequencies. Problem is, I'm situated in Europe, so I can't just test it. Am considering giving it to a friend in the states and wondering if it will work there.

The internet has contradictory information. Some sites say it supports 4 bands, some say it supports only the european/asian ones.

Mobile Uncle MTK Tools' Engineer Mode has check marks for all 4 2G frequency bands... Is that a safe confirmation that it is in fact a quad band phone that will work in the US?

Also how good is MTK6589's support for american 3G networks? I get from this that the US has quite a wide range of 3G frequencies in use, but how many do you really need? [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

Any input on this topic will be appreciated.

That the phone is not can used in USA. Is 900/1800. USA the GSM is be 850/1900. So good for Internet only.

America wcdma 850, 1900 also and aws 1700/2100.. That the phone be completely useless but for net.

ok, I have another phone in mind for an american friend. It has quad band GSM support, so that's good. But it can only do 2100Mhz 3G (and 900Mhz according to some sites...). Her provider is T-Mobile, which according to this chart uses 1700 and 2100Mhz 3G. Does that mean it will be fully 3G connected or just partially or poorly so?

Are you buying the phone new?

It won't connect to 3G at all. She'll need 1700/2100 AWS, which doesn't exist in China-brand phones, except with some penta-band Huawei phones.

Even if it has 850, she'll need to be on an AT&T or AT&T MVNO, and be in an area that AT&T uses 850.

So is this like your girlfriend? Smile

Could she get data access at all through 2G? If so at what speeds?

Thumbs Up

Yes, GSM/2G/Voice no problem (USA/North America GSM = 850/1900)

Correct me if I am wrong.

In Philadelphia I could only connect to 2G on T-Mobile with my iPhone 4, and it was slooooooooow. iPhone 4 3G bands are 850/1,900 MHz.

Meanwhile, my zp900 with 850mhz connected fine on At&t 3G in Philly.

Yes. Sorry, by 2G I meant data. She'll be able to connect to 2G Data.

Yes, if it has 850MHz WCDMA, it should be able to connect to AT&T or AT&T MVNO if the area transmits at 850 (many areas transmit at 1900 WCDMA only). The phones RDMKR mentioned don't have 850 WCDMA though.

On another note, unfortunately, AT&T seems to be setting up its new 3G as 1900MHz WCDMA, so China Phone 3G in USA may be completely out of the picture in the near future.... Unless USA gets with the program and starts using 2100 or China phone manufacturers get with the program and starts putting 1900MHz radios in addition to 850.
