Goophone S4 Mega?

(2013-08-23, 06:50)WuddaWaste Wrote: Maine, as always, you just make me want to buy stuff. SO tempting on that S7589. Is yours the white one? It might get kinda weird to have the exact same phone as the girly. At that price it's almost impossible to decline, though.

Lots more questions:
In regards to phablets, is there a "sweet spot" regarding size? Usable as a tablet, but not a pain in the nards to carry around?
Does 1GB of RAM cut it for most everyday phone use?
Is the biggest jump between the B6000 and i6000 the RAM?
Gizbeat: what's your ideal price range for a China phone?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm still wearing my overstimulated-newbie glasses in this arena.

It is white.
Like I said it is flawless.

It is being ebayed already, but if you decide you are interested, I can go even lower, just to avoid ebay/paypal fees.

I have 12 years selling experience on ebay, you are quite safe with me.

Does 1GB of RAM cut it for most everyday phone use? I think so, however, I went with the higher version for my i6000, because dx told me they had it in stock.

The biggest jump between B6000 and i6000 is the screen size, 5.7" to 6.45", and screen res, full HD 1920x1080 vs 1280x720 on S7589/B6000. RAM is basically irrelevant. You can get one with 1GB RAM and 16GB ROM or one w/2GB RAM and 32GB ROM. The price difference is about $60.
Temptation has reached critical mass. If you haven't sold it already, let's do this! I figure this will be a good "get my feet wet" starting point so I can get a feel for phablets and china phones. Thanks in advance, dude. Let me know how you want to proceed. Big Grin

anything over 4.5" will be somewhat cumbersome (can't use in one hand, etc) and may get you funny looks from people. 5" to +/- 6" can be worth it to properly make use of an FHD screen, though. I'd really hesitate to buy anything over 6". It would be like walking around with a tablet in your pocket all the time.

so if you're into phablets... 6" inch might be a sweet spot. see if the pandawill deal suits your needs.

yes, easily.
Thanks for all the advice and nudges in the right direction!

In regards to the 1GB/2GB, you guys have cured my curiosities. Also, just saw this on Gizbeat today. Coincidence?

Actually I had a long-winded reply half-typed out to you and decided it would be a good idea for a post. I'd meant to reply to this thread and direct you to it, but just got around to it. Great you found it beforehand Thumbs Up

Also, regarding price of a phone, I think $250 is about the limit for me, but there's no reason to not spend more if it's got the specs you want and you have the budget. There's a decent thread in this forum about it started by Rdmkr.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Very good article, Giz.

I'd be happy w/1GB on my upcoming i6000, but the price difference was $50, so I decided to go for it.
And I got extra 16GB of storage, which is worth something like $10 Big Grin

Anything over 5" is hard to use. Although phones with large screens is a good thing for your eyes.

one advantage of a bigger screen is that it's easier to accurately click things on the screen. keyboards are less of a nuisance to use. but convenience wise the "sweet spot" really is somewhere around 4.5 inch, imo. big, but usable in one hand (by me) without much trouble. but such screens are also made for a 720p resolution. sacrificing performance to get 1080p on that is a bit silly. and if you're a high-res buff like me, going for something bigger can be a good move. even on 5 inch not all of the potential of a 1080p screen is realized.

You guys make good points. Since playing with the Star S7589, even for only 5 minutes, going back to my Nexus 4 makes me feel like a giant, blind ogre with the fattest sausage-fingers on earth. I keep thinking I might drop this big momma, though. Not sure if it's just my paranoid-brain doing it's thing, or if it's the distant trumpets of inevitability. I wish there were more case options out there for it.

Does anyone else remember the times when tech buffs claimed there was no perceivable difference between 720p and 1080p on televisions that were under 42" or so? And now here we are 2 years later talking about 1080p on a 6" display.
