Two companies are trying to lower cellphone costs by relying on Wi-Fi routers. Now some of the bigger companies are looking to follow their lead.

sounds good.
there is always a risk when connecting to public WiFi, though. But, unless you make a call about committing some sort of crime, it shouldn't be a bother.
in the end, it is still up to the user to use public wifi wisely. dont log into your online bank accounts or sensitive email accounts, etc and you should be fine.
but imagine if you just need to meet up with someone, or call for help about a broken down car, calling-over-wifi sounds like an excellent option.
