[Question] 1st 8 core tablet?!
#1
I have an Ainol Novo7 Venus and it's good for what it's worth (almost dirt-cheap for me), and I think it's time to step up but yeah, I don't want to spend sooo much on branded tablets.

I just saw this tablet, reportedly the first 8 core tablet, TG-8001 Exynos 5410, and here are the specs:

Operating System: Android 4.2
Model: TeamGee
Announced: 201309
Product Type: Tablet PC
Keyboard: Touch Screen
Display Technology: IPS capacitive touch screen
Screen Size: 8 inch
Max Resolution: 1280*800
CPU Manufacturer: Samsung ARM-A15
CPU Model: Exynos 5410 Eight Core
CPU Speed: 1.6GHz
RAM / Technology: DDR3
RAM Installed Size: 2GB
Hard Drive Type: NAND FAST FLASH
Hard Drive Capacity: 16GB
PCMCIA Expansion: T-FLASH(Support 32GB MAX)
Camera: 2.0MP+5.0MP with flash
HDMI: Yes
2G: Yes, GSM 850/900/1800/1900
3G: Yes, WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100
Bluetooth: Yes, 4.0
GPS: Yes
G-Sensor: Yes
Audio: Built in stereo speakers/Built in Microphone
Software: Youtube/Facebook/Twitter/MSN/Android market/Skype/Calculator/Google Mail/Google maps/iReader/Quick Office

Battery Type: Li-ion, 4400mAh
Battery / Run Time(up to): about 3-7 hours
Power Device Type: AC Adapter, 100-240V
Charging Voltage: DC 5V 2.5A
Color: White
Item Dimensions/ W*D*H: 209*135*10mm
Net Weight: 430g
Input/Output Connectors
Ports:
1 x Micro USB 3.0 Port
1 x Earphone jack
1 x SIM card slot

1 x Mini HDMI port

1 x TF card slot

Communications
Networking / Data Link Protocol: Fast Ethernet
Wireless Connection: WIFI
Wireless Protocol: 802.11 b/g/n
Support Format
Video: AVI/RM/RMVB/MKV/WMV/MOV/MP4/DAT(VCD format)/VOB(DVD format)/PMP/MPEG/MPG/FLV/ASF/TS/TP/3GP/MPG
Audio: FLAC/APE/WAV
Picture: JPG/BMP/PNG/GIF
Ebook: WORD/EXCEL/PDF/TXT/CHM/HTML

And here it is in action:

What I like about it is that I can probably use it as a phone. It's more than how much I paid for my current tablet, but the specs might make up for it. Do you think it would be a great replacement for my Ainol Novo7 Venus? I might also use it for bigger games, since I'm having lag with what I have right now.

I'm guessing your current bottleneck is the 1GB of RAM in your Ainol Novo 7 Venus. Moving to this new one will likely help you out because of the RAM first and the processor second. The fact that it's a phone makes it all sorts of "HOLY CRAP" to boot! 8-Core, 1.6 GHz, 2GB, 8" PHONE! Whoa!

It looks like a very powerful machine. I think the big difference will be the GPU. But maybe if you don't play hard core games too much then you wont see the difference between the two with everyday android use. The CPU is a lot more powerful as well, but android doesn't need so much power to run smooth.

Yes, it does look impressive. I'm curious though if the advancement in specs would be noticeable haha. I know my Ainol Novo7 Venus is Quad Core but it does still slow down a bit. Still, this one is very affordable..

deal breaker.

Voyo A15 is a better deal. dual core 2Ghz (yes, 2Ghz, not 1.8Ghz; I've had one in my hands and ran CPU-Z on it) cortex A15 with powerful mali T-something GPU at an actually decent screen res of 1920x1080. Oh and the size is an awesome 11.5 inch.

its single and dual threaded performance will be considerably better than that octa-core chip (which is really quad-core with another quad chip it turns on instead temporarily to save power; only 4 cores active at any time; look up the Big-Little concept), which matters more in 85% of applications cause they don't use more than 2 threads (qualcomm's data). also it's GPU is in a whole league higher; it's designed to run the nexus 10's 2500x1600 screen after all.

and it'll probably be about $60 cheaper, if not more.

an octa-core tablet on 1200x800 is kind of silly. hardly going to be distinguishable from a rockchip tablet at the same res. they picked it to get a higher antutu etc result, I think.

edit: OH! I didn't notice this the first time:

Battery Type: Li-ion, 4400mAh

TOO SMALL for a tablet. ESPECIALLY for octa-core. AVOID this thing.

Nice, where do you buy that though? I was thinking there's a catch to it. xD How do you know about these? That's the kind of thing I really need to know about for when I want to buy a China phone.

Keep in mind the Voyo a15 and TeamGee TG-8001 are apples and oranges.

11.6" 1920*1080 and 8" with 1280*800 are the same PPI.

Voya a15 is just a tablet. TG-8001 is a phablet with SIM WCDMA/GSM phone capabilities.
4000-5000mA is standard on 7" and 8" tablets.

A good point that Wudda, Sniper, and Rdmkr made, is that CPU wise, you won't see a whole lot of real world difference between your current tablet and these tablets.

- Android may be slightly smoother, but not too much.
- With graphics intensive apps you may see some additional smoothness
- With high-end 3D games, you'll see a significant difference.
- The RAM will be a nice upgrade if you're a power user
- You'll have phone capabilities

Not sure if these differences are enough to justify the upgrade, or not. That will depend on you and your budget. Let us know what you decide.
