I am trying to find a program like MTK Droid Tool to backup the firmware/Rom of this phone.

Have you installed a custom recovery?
CWM/CTR/TWRP can all do a full backup of your system with the exception of NVRAM.....but CPA have tutorials on that.

b) adb backups normally are found on your PC and for folder where you are running the adb command.

I recommend you do not use adb as you can't access it when you are out and about. CWM backups go onto your sdcard and are available for restore when you are out and about and fancy free.

Thanks for responding, I did not come here from google this was my first stop as I have gotten help from you all before. No I have not installed Custom Recovery. I just read a thread from a google search that said I need to install the Samsung driver so I did and all of a sudden MTK Droid tool recognized my phone. The phone is actually going through the Back-up process as I type this response I will let you all know how it goes.

Then I will see what I can do about Costom Recovery, stay tuned.

Look stop mucking about with Windows drivers nonsense. And don't tell me you are on W8 or I will have a heart attack of mirth.

I suggest you download Linux live cd and post in linux corner and more will be revealed. Don't install Linux until you have played with it a bit.

Alternatively you can install virtualbox on Windows and run the linux iso from there.
But I can offer no advice on how to resolve Windows junk.

I agree that it doesn't seem to be MTK that is what I have been trying to tell everyone. Anyway I tried the commands you suggest however I don't know if it was successful or not. What should my end result be? what I should I be looking for? where should the backup be located if it was successful? you know things like that.

Sorry. The filename.ab file created is the backup file that you can restore with adb restore command. The .ab file should be found in the directory you placed it in. (ie. C:\ or /directoryname)

Of course, if you can make a successful backup with Droid Tools, then that is better.

Ok guys/gals I just want to thank you for all the help you have provided. I was able to back-up the phone using MTK Droid tools after installing the Samsung driver that I obtained from a site found through google (sorry I closed the browser before coping the URL)

After installing the driver I ran MTK Droid tools then connected my phone to the PC and it was recognized so I followed the video by Gizbeat to make the backup and CWM. So now I am good to go and able to tinker with this new toy of mine. Thanks.

How can i backup and install a new rom on my samsung galaxy note 3
the kernel is linux version 3.4.5 (can i change the kernel version????)
My hardware is MT 6582
Model is SM N9006

The phone has been rooted...

The Gizbeat video on backing up worked for me as well so give that a try.
