[Question] which MTK phone has strong GPS working out of the box ?

4 inch screen up to 120$ ?
GPS is the most important feature for me.

Thanks.

I recently grabbed a D2 MTK6572, dropped google maps on it and it seems to be fantastic. I haven't driven around with it on yet but when I hit the maps to find it it did rather instantly.

ThL W8 has good GPS signal in doors and while on the move. Tested mine in the country areas and still had great signal.

MTK6582 is a good suggestion. Be aware of frequencies when purchasing MTK6582 if you're in the Americas. If you're in Europe / UK / anywhere in the world with 2100WCDMA service, take a look at ZP820 / H7500B. Most GPS with China phones is okay, just don't expect to be getting immediate locks. Sometimes it can take up to 2 minutes if data (AGPS) isn't turned on.

Why would the MTK6582 be a good suggestion ? Did Mediatek change anything in this new chip to improve the GPS ?

BTW,
I bought a Doogee DG100 phone for my son.
The GPS is useless, but he doesn't need one.

I have the THL W300. It works quite well and is fairly reliable, but sometimes is a little slow to respond to my changing course.
previously I had an Orient Phone N3 9002 GPS was utter rubbish. The advice from the company was use it with Data and Wifi enabled. I tried this and it was still very inaccurate, sometimes it was a couple of miles out!.
I want one that doesn't have to rely on data..

I have a HDC One Max S6, it is a rebranded Star S6 with MTK6589T and it has fair gps signal. It locks within one minute and precision is around 20 feet. Have not modded the antenna or anything.

Why pay for a dual-core MTK6572 phone when you can now get a quad core MTK6582 phone for almost the same price ? That's why I suggested MTK6582 models.

Actually, I feel there is really nothing wrong or inferior about the Mediatek GPS SOC with EPO.

Most GPS in Mediatek phones do not work because of POOR implementation - most of these MTK phones have NO GPS antenna or lousy antenna design.

Poor EPO software implementation is another reason but this is easily rectified nowadays - you can get this gps software fix easily from the internet

Cool

I've just bought a Mysaga M1 phone and it's been able to pick up GPS satellites quickly and easily inside the house. The accuracy seems good going from the google map showing my location within about a metre. As for a compass you can download various apps from the play store. The other phones I've had with GPS weren't as good as this one.
