Study: Young women with sexy social media photos seen as less competent

Girls and young women who post sexy or revealing photos on social media sites are viewed by their female peers as less attractive and less competent to perform tasks, a new study indicates. One researcher's advice for girls and young women is to select social media photos that showcase their identity rather than her appearance, such as one from a trip or one that highlights participation in a sport or hobby.

i've seen lots of stuff on Facebook and G+ which is borderline porn. never understood the reason behind that, why would you want to put pictures of yourself like that on a public site. younger girls sometimes really don't know what they are doing.

Correct, and mostly their parents don't know either. And since today's generation doesn't know how to value older peoples life experience ("they want to find out on their own because it's their right...") they're prone to all kinds of risks.

I think the reason is fairly obvious ---> Attention. If you've got it, flaunt it. This is natural human behavior. We love to feel sexy and desired and noticed. I dont see anything wrong with it.

Its the same reason old people normally *don't* post revealing pics of themselves. Youth is beauty.

Anyways, you won't see me complaining about young, attractive girls posting revealing photos of themselves.

In regards to the study itself... I think this is fairly obvious to anyone with a modicum of thought cells, that obviously a person showing themselves in a "hot" shot, will be considered less likely to be able to perform complex tasks in better fashion, than for example a picture of a girl dressed prim and proper with a book in her hand.

I could have saved them several thousand dollars in study grant money and told them this.

The other side of this is *jealousy*. Women are naturally catty and more likely to talk negatively or *think* or *talk* badly about another female who has shown herself off. This is likely a bigger factor in the study results than *truly* believing that the sexy girl couldn't perform complex tasks well.

Its not dated, or masculine. Youth is always more beautiful than aged. Whether talking about men or women. It's a fact of life and has been genetically programmed into us (yes, both men and women) since dawn of time to favor and be attracted to it.

That's not to say there aren't beautiful old people.

Of course, you are absolutely right.... that is why nature also created humans that think different than you: Their responses might change the way you see things Or as one might aptly say: "Beauty is all in the eye of the beholder".....

It is possible we are talking about two different things. I am talking about physical beauty and attraction.

Are you really trying to have us believe that an 80 year old man or woman naked is beautiful to view?

I am talking about the average not-blind human who still has some energy in their bones. Obviously you can trick your mind to believe whatever you wish.
