Hi guys,
Ok, seeing as the updates have slowed down I thought i'd take a look at the 'premium' SmartDigi ROM for the V3. I'm not sure how much you guys 'know' but they claim to have integrated most aspects of Kitkat into the ROM.
The rom is 'donationware' - but in the reverse, where you have to donate before getting it, rather than after trying. But it cost me $1.
First thing. To even try to flash the rom you need to 'downgrade' to stock 1.03. You can't flash from 1.04 at all - it simply won't work.
Best thing is flashing with CWM - which implements the funky Aroma installer. The install's pretty fast.
Once installed you get the custom Kitkat boot screen, and the boot image like asop.
The rom is pre-installed with Google experience launcher. But straight away I noticed some things I didn't like.
1. Straight away the phone signal was rubbish. I'm on 1.04 - and in my house have full H+ pretty much anywhere. On this rom I couldn't get a signal in the same place - full stop. I thought it could be an IMEI error, so restored it using mobileuncle - rebooted, but no resolve.
2. Storage - the rom seems to screw up your storage. Suddenly I only had 1gb phone storage, meaning restoring all my apps was impossible.
The rom seemed smooth - but really didn't see the difference to 1.04. But even with these little headaches I restored back to 1.04.
The info said it was Android 4.4.2 - but i'm not overly convinced. However i'm not saying to people 'not' to try & use it - you might like it. Depending on what Gizbeat thinks i'm more than happy to share the rom, rather than others have to 'pay' to try it - which isn't in the spirit of dev. If someone could point me in the right direction / best place to upload too that would help as its over 600mb (and I have a VERY slow connection!).
Anyway, just in case you were wondering - now you know. Sorry for lack of screenshots too - but to be honest there's not much 'different' or 'revolutionary' to show.

Hello, I e-mailed several questions to smartdigi developer regarding this ROM. I am sharing his answers (which I mark in RED) :
Quote:Hello
I am looking to buy a inew v3 phone. How is this device? Is it a good buy? I was looking at your ROMs for inew V3 as I am looking to use it if I'm getting a v3.
+The device its good to buy. It's medium price phone , so for this price its good choice.
Can you pls tell me more about ROM KOT49H V6.1 (18-02-2014) for inew v3?
* Is it based on official ROM? | Yes its based from the official 1.0.3 / the 1.0.4 its unstable for the device from our test
* Is it better than stock? | For us its better because we have new feautures files and removed unwanted files
* What all features of KitKat are there in this ROM? | The rom have from the original kit kat , a lot of library files , some network framework settings, general device prop settings, googgle server sync, experience launcher, 4.4 tts sync, and media
* Our rom have tweaks and mods inside for smooth scroll, faster open and install apps, custom modem with better singal range, custom settings kernel, battery safe.
* Is the ROM stable? | Yes its stable
* Dual sim functionality working ok? | Yes work excellent
* How is the 3G, GPS and WiFi | 3G works , Gps Also and wifi excellent
* I read that YouTube lags on this phone - is it a problem on this ROM? | We fixed with the new codecs and with older youtube version, now works ok.
* How is the battery backup? I read some users report battery drain when phone idle. | The battery with normaly use,( little phones 20min a day , 2 hours wifi) work for 36-48 hours without problem
If some user keep the screen open , with 3g , wifi and call a lot can work maximum 12-18hours (the battery its to small for 4core phone.
* Also, is there any chance of official Android 4.4 KitKat update for this phone? If official update is not there, any chance smartdigi team make custom ROM based on Android 4.4? | This phones have not any feature. When the factory give the phone to sellers its stopping to make any changes to this device and going to make a new. So this model will not have any rom update like 4.4
+ Onle some expensive brand china phones have updates.
+ Its hard for us to turn to the sdk 19 from sdk 17 because we have not the basic linux files rom from the factory to work with.
So as per developer, ROM is based on stock 1.0.3 jellybean with KitKat enhancements.
Only hope for V3 to get KitKat is for MediaTek to release drivers I think.

Please stop falling for this. There is no Kit-Kat for China phones. Samsung has yet release kitkat for any of it's phones, it's still in pre-rollout and test stage. If you think they've got Kit-Kat for a China phone, i've got land in tahiti for sale if you're interested. Donating $1, it's not a lot, but it just encourages them. Probably they making $500 a week from a bunch of suckers.

This might be true, but it's not true for tablets, as some of them already have it. So we can expect it on our phones very soon.

KitKat for mediatek quadcore devices may be coming after some time. A reliable rumour source has said that Micromax (an Indian company which re-brands Chinese Mediatek phones), will release 4.4 for their MTK based devices in Q2 2014 - [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

Maybe so, but as this rom's been mentioned a few times I thought i'd explore on behalf of the community & share the results.

They lied so many times that I can't believe that somebody can believe them.
To put it simple - I can make a ROM which looks like Android 999.999 including info in "About phone" but it doesn't make it so.

Have to say I never believed it and now that if you edit the build.prop you get the name change. I, personally, was just curious what the difference was in their ROM.
As we now know it's an earlier base, with some supposed KitKat mods. However my thought is I'd they have base ROM for inew and also the dev cotes for KitKat why they couldn't do more than integrate a portion and then try a theme job.
I guess I felt I was trying to do a favour by trying it. As I've said I've read the comments on needrom on this, but was also mindful that a few community users here have referred to this ROM for others. At least it's been tested now, and simply stock 1.04 with cwm is much better, at least until geekgirl congress up with her latest custom, hopefully with the battery drain solved.
