NOTE: CWM recovery in the combo zip is good for rooting your stock ROM, however it's got issues with performing backups. If you want to keep your stock ROM, you can ROOT with that recovery. Then flash the 2nd recovery for performing backups. So it will depend on your situation and what you need to accomplish.
What we recommend currently if you just want the best setup for this phone is installing the pre-rooted Note 2 ROM and the recovery listed in the Note 2 ROM thread.
Files needed:
- (Note, this is the newest version as of this post). Use this or a newer version, versions older than a week or so from the date of this thread likely won't work with MTK6589
- for a9600 / zp900h, which includes MTK6589 ADB drivers and superuser zip.
- for a9600 / 900h / h9500+
- Your phone
- USB cable

Quick and dirty:
• Install MTK6589 ADB Drivers and verify in device manager
• Copy superuser zip to your external SD
• Run Flash Tool and load appropriate scatter
• Turn Off Phone, pull out the battery for 5 seconds and put it back in
• Click 'Download' on Flash Tools
• Plug in Phone - You will see it install the recovery. It should finish with a green circle
• Boot into recovery by holding vol+ and power together
• Select 'update from SD'
• Navigate to the previously copied superuser zip and select it
• Reboot and verify root
