[Tutorial] how to embed stuff when posting

Naturally some of these work in full text mode by clicking on the tool sets you can see when in full edit mode

Please share your embedding tips for newbies like me.

I will start by using using a code box with an extra * so you can see how to show it

remove the asterix when you post to show a code box please

and here are a few I know

### show an embedded youtube movie

#### pls adjust size to something smallish like a 800x600
Obviously you can also upload as an attachment, but I prefer not to, to reserve my allowance for something really important......grins like a sheep

spoilers work really well, when you may need to discuss something like preparation or assumptions.....that some people can skip etc

2) spoilers also reduce the look of the page. Your discussion/thread/tutorial might contains thousands of words......most you can hide into sectional discussions

download this......hidden in spoiler
action this
check this....hidden in spoiler
etc

800x600 is good. I normally post mine at 1mp or less.

I'd like to add a tip here that hotlinking does not create a thumbnail. Only when uploaded directly to the site does the site create a thumb. Hotlinking out to these 5 and 6 and 13mp photos doesn't do anyone any good. The site will squeeze images down to fit, but its still loading the entire image every time the page is loaded.

My recommendation would be to upload and hotlink to images no bigger than 2mp. 1mp or 1024x768 is fine..especially if showing off pics in the pic forum.

A great app for instantly shrinking images on mobile is 'Image Shrink'. [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register] Though the free version can only do one at a time. There are other options as well, but this is the one I use.

but I note you can also resize without doing a conversion using

Naturally I use Linux, so prefer mtpaint for all my image conversions and rescaling

The tip regarding size will change the view of the image, but unfortunately not create a thumbnail. The site is already wired to change the view to an appropriate size, but the tip could still be handy.
