MP 809T
And after 1 year and a half, my MPAI 809T started to give me problems with the sim card (kept disconnecting/losing signal), issues also with the TF card with Link2SD (didn't mount on startup as it used to, so had to reboot twice everytime) The speaker broke twice (a friend of mine has the whole audio chipset blown and the seller is no more on Aliexpress.. he had it for less than a Year). SO, good experience for 130€, but now I switched to Xiaomi mi4. Another world.

My device had the first part of your problem, too. Every now and then it showed very weak signal strength, disconnected from the mobile network, ...

My first thought was my carrier. I use german o2 network which is part of Telefonica. As german E-Plus is also part of Telefonica, you are able to use both networks with national roaming since April. My device always warned of high roaming costs, so I installed Xposed framework and GravityBox to disable this warning for national roaming.

I installed a different baseband version from Cubot S208 (MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V35.P19) and I think that the mobile network connection is more stable.

There's only one point: SIM cards are switched - SIM in slot1 is shown as SIM2 and vice versa.

Has any of you tried to install CyanogenMod in the 809T? It says "Device not compatible", but it can still get installed.

I would do it but I'm not good with mobiles, backing up and restoring ROMs.

After the new android vulnerabilities I believe that CyanogenMod is a much better option than any android system

I don't know if such kind of post is allowed here or not, but I'd like to buy a broken MP 809T (M Faction Royal, quad core, 5"), if somebody has one, and if he doesn't need it anymore.

Actually I have broken its glass a few months ago, and although I could replace it with a new glass (25$ from Aliexpress), during moving to another flat I lost a few small particles of the phone, because it was dissambled.
I miss the tiny volume up and own buttons, a few screws, and the small inside cover which would cover the speaker too.

So if anybody here has this phone, even completely disfunctioning or broken, I would buy it.

Please send a private email through this forum if possible.
thank you.

Happy New Year!

Could you be a little more specific about what's still the same? Do you still have the phone in good condition after x months, is there a problem that still ain't fixed? What's still the same?

In other news... I just bought the Octo-Core version of MPAI 809T. Bought it after Christmas in 2015 and picked it up late January. I have played around with the phone for about a month now and can comfortably say that I've seen it all. Nothing can surprise me about this phone now.

First off, I'd like to say that I'm no noob when it comes to China phones. If there was a City called tweak town then I'd definitely be the mayor - at least my 809t Octa would agree. I have flashed various roms including tons from needrom. Some broke something like the cameras or partitions. Others simply wouldn't boot. I got into real trouble trying to port various lollipop ROMS for my phone from mtkroms.com. I got some working on my phone but all failed when it came to some pretty important functionality. Amongst the functions that proved most troublesome were: hardware buttons, Bluetooth, cameras, loudspeaker, magnetic sensor, and gps. Nothing I did could fix these errors which led me to the only plausible explanation -- the base ROM is unbelievably unfit for porting.

Here's a little background... MPAI started off with a nice phone, it became quite popular and demand outstripped supply so they had to find a way to keep up. They therefore started getting various components from different suppliers than the ones they started with (most notably main camera, touchscreen, loudspeaker). In the midst of all the component changing, MPAI also made various versions of ROMS. That's why if you bought a phone recently and flash firmware from 2014, something's definitely going to get broken.

I couldn't find a working KK for my phone in all the usual places. The only one that agreed with my phone was a dragonfly d8 ultra ROM from some Italian forum.

Anyway back to why porting a ROM for this phone is so darn difficult...

If you want to port a rom, you must have a vanilla (stock Android or pretty close to it). as the base rom. Unfortunately, MPAI couldn't have gone any further from vanilla android. The ROM on the 809t is based on YUN OS. That's the Chinese version of Android that is so adulterated that it doesn't deserve to be called android at all. Now... using such a non-stock (read unstable) android rom as the base rom for porting is doomed to fail. I tried so many lollipop versions from mtkroms and failed to turn any into something worth using as a daily driver. Amongst the ones I tried included: blisspop, xperia rom, AICP, octOS, bugless cm12 and a few others.

The fact that this phone has only 1GB of ram is also a serious disincentive so my porting is grinding to a halt. It makes little sense to go through this much trouble to bring lollipop to a phone with just a gig of ram because it'll definitely chock on the lollipop.

Here's my advice for anyone with the 8-core 809t that wants to see it running on Android L: hang your boots and go back to KitKat and thank goodness you have a properly working phone. It just ain't as powerful as the specs say but at least it gets the job done as a decent phone - just don't expect to give real workhorse phones a run for their money.
