Good android Phones wcdma 850/1900
#1
Hey guy i am new to the board I wanted to get an idea of a good China phone that will work for me in my area. I live in Canada and the phone needs to support wcdma 850/1900. There are a couple phones I was interested in and was wondering if anybody had any experience with them good/bad if they would recommend it or recommend any other phones.

The two phones I am looking at are MLAIS MX69 Pro Octa Core 1.7GHz and Newman K18- MTK6592 Octa Core 1.7GHz

any and all input would be greatly appreciated. I am leaning more towards the newman but i can't find any reviews about the newman other then what seems to be people affiliated with sellers.

Welcome to the forum my fellow Canadian. Who are you with as a service provider? The reason I ask is they preach that you need both the 850 and 1900 wcdma bands but that isn't necessarily true depending on where you live. Rogers have a secondary 2g/gsm network that you can fall back on and Bell/Virgin are putting 850 3G off of almost every tower they have up. Telus/ Koodo supposedly have a tower sharing agreement with Bell so it's all the same anyway. I've used phones with just 850 wcdma and had no problems at all.

This will show you what is up by provider in your area. I think it's fairly accurate.

As for your phone, why don't you put a list of what you are looking for in a phone and I'm sure forum members will offer up some good suggestions to fit your criteria.

Thanks for the greatings, I am with Koodo, I am new to china phones and have never owned one so I do not know a whole lot about them. All i know is that my galaxy S2 got water damaged and I need a new phone ASAP because my old galaxy ace doesn't cut it anymore. I read somewhere that you need both 850/1900 one for outgoing data and one for incoming. I may be wrong but like i said I do not know much about these phones.

What i am looking for in a Phone

Screen: Around 5" I can deal with a bit bigger but 5 is my preference
Ram: 2gb
Rom: 16 - 32 gb
Processor: Quad or Octa Core
GPS: Yes
Camera: Preferably 10MP or better
Screen: 720p or greater
And I need something that play store works on
and with a known way of rooting.
Also another plus would be USB OTG but it is not needed
and NFC would be an added bonus

Price range between $200 - $300

Basically I am trying to find a very capable phone for my money.
a samsung Knockoff would be cool but from What i can tell the only one that supports 850/1900 with an octa core is the MLAIS M69 Pro but the screen is a bit on the big side

Thanks guys

I'm with Bell and they said the same thing about needing both 850/1900. I would say they are wrong as I've been using a 850/2100 phone on their network for at least the last 6 months...lol. From my understanding Bell and Telus have an agreement to share towers so if you need a signal and it's available on the other network it will grab it. Don't quote me though...I've never been a Telus customer. You would have to do some research to be 100% certain.
China phones with both 850/1900 wcdma are scarce as of right now.

As for phones you could look at the Zopo ZP998. It comes in under $300, but has a 5.5" screen and is also only 850/2100 wcdma.
The Xiaomi Mi3 is a beast of a phone. It is 5" display, has both 850/1900 but is around $400.

Thanks for the input, Im having a hard time finding out if I need both bands for koodo.

Does anybody have any experience with the MLAIS MX69 Pro? It seems similar to the Zopo ZP998 spec wise but it has the 850/1900

I owned the H9008 which is pretty much the same phone as the Mlais MX69T Pro. Very nice phone modeled after the Samsung Note 3. It is a bit larger than you first mentioned with a 5.7" display but it doesn't feel like it. It's fairly thin and has a nice feel to it. My only complaints are it would get pretty hot when running graphic intensive games like Dead Trigger 2 etc.., and the battery life(especially the on screen time) was not that great. I was getting a day with light use.
I have a video review up in the the Mlais section of this forum. Feel free to check it out. It might help you get a better feel for the phone if you are leaning towards it.

Thanks for the reply I will check out the video review. Battery life doesn't bother me too much I usually buy a few batteries and a standalone charger and have a few batteries ready to go.
I was leaning more towards the Newman K18 because of the smaller screen but It seems impossible to find any info about that phone, other then from sellers.

I haven't tried the K18 but I do have a Newman K2S. It's not bad. The build quality feels/looks good. Cameras are average.Performance is pretty good. Battery life is just ok. You can squeeze in a day with moderate use. Screen is ok but not as vivid as some others out there.
The GPS seemed ok getting locks, but the more I've played with it and tried to use it to navigate it became clear the GPS is VERY weak.
On the up side, Newman have been updating the ROM fairly frequently.
I also have a review for the Newman K2S. It's not the K18 but might give you a feel for the brand.

Keep in mind we've recently had a user who got an MX69 Pro that didn't have 1900. Though there is still some question as to what the exact situation is with his unit.

Go with H9008 or Mlais MX69T Pro.

Obviously we recommend you go with the sponsors of the forum. That way if there happens to be some issue, you have some extra layer of support.
