Navigating with GPS on iNew V3
#1
So, I did all the ygps, "faster gps" app, mobile uncle tools tweaking (new EPO files, etc) on a rooted v3.
Now, I can easily lock my position to within 3 meters in less than a minute, if I'm outdoors.
I can also easily find my position in google earth, google maps, waze or any other software.
But using a navigation app (especially waze) doesn't work. The phone keeps recalculating the position, and when I'm walking, it often shows me near where I actually am.

Did anyone here actually succeed in properly navigating with the V3, not just getting their position? and if yes - how? If the phone tells me to "turn left" 20 meters after I needed to, since it took time to recalculate (again and again) where I am, then it's no good.

I was even thinking of peeling some of the label that covers the GPS antenna and improving it.

By the way - I am no engineer but I am certain the NFC antenna has nothing to do with GPS. For one thing, it is labeled NFC, while the GPS is labeled GPS. But more importantly - GPS test, and mobile uncle tools YGPS both work exactly the same with the back off.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Exactly same problem. But for some reason first few minutes i have felling that positoning is working well and than goes berserk.
Watching track log on google map shows +/-30m deviations from actual position. Same deviations are visible in Igo primo nVigation as well(small dot bouncing around position arrow).
This feature makes inew vwry unsutable for navigation in urban areas.
I am on ultimate 1.04 rom

Same issues here. With different roms I have had different issues with GPS. But even with 15 sats in the air, a fix on 7 or 8 the position is not always correct. The GPS loses the fix often (every 10-15 minutes at least 1 time), but also every 4-5 minutes shows an incorrect position, usually 10-20 meters left or right, or responds slow when I turned, the GPS shows that I am still on the highway, but I already have taken the exit. So, yes, I see sats, I have a fix, but it is not suitable for navigation. My next phone will have to have a 100% perfect GPS.
I switched a lot of Roms lately and now on LeWa for the V3, and I see stats, but SNR=0. I applied all known tricks, but no signal.

I'm also in V4. Can anyone comment on the idea of maybe adding a little tin foil antenna inside the phone? I saw threads on XDA saying it helped with old MTK 6589 devices.
Navigation on my THL T5s with MTK 6582 works, so I am certain it is an issue of implementing the antenna or software, besides the V3 gets a lock as fast as the THL, it's just navigation that is hard.

Some people reported that even if they had problems with Igo, Navigon, this one worked ok on inew v3 - [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

It's just a matter of luck, I had a strong and accurate GPS signal since the first boot with the first ROM and no agps, while with my previous phone I had the problems you have now and other owners none at all!

I am from The Netherlands. Indeed some of the navigation apps do some kind of error handling. They will keep your position on the road because they know you are not driving 140km/h and suddenly in a pasture between the cows and then 10 seconds later back on the road. But just look at the position when stopped. Then I can see my location jump around. Now I flashed a Rom I had with functional GPS, so now I have GPS signal, and fix. But probably not a good fix. Will test tomorrow when I am back on the road.

Same issues here, with all roms that I've tried, except 1.05, I get a fix on many sats but in actual driving it's very inaccurate making it useless. Even using the 1.08 GPS fix rom. 1.05 was the only rom that gave me accurate navigation when using IGO but unfortunately I had other issues with that rom. I see many posts from people who say their GPS is working great with a certain rom because it gives them a fixed location, but have actually tried navigating with it. And I agree the NFC antenna has nothing to do with GPS signal, with the back cover off the sat signals were no different when using GPS test but of course I wasn't able to read any NFC cards.

Same here, i usually get a fix pretty fast and the reliability may be "good enough" for walking in the streets with Google maps, but as you cannot predict these sudden position jumps, it's (for me) not usable for car navigation. Fortunately the V3 isn't my only option so i decided to stick with my old but reliable HTC Desire for car navigation.
Although this decision may seem odd at first, it comes with a few benefits. The GPS would drain the battery of the V3 very fast, so on longer road trips i'd have to plug it into a car charger anyway. The fact, that the USB port is on the top edge of the V3 (and not on the bottom like in the HTC Desire) would make this a pretty "ugly" setup while driving and using the Smartphone in portrait mode.

I have come to the conclusion that many Chinese makers don't pay enough attention to the GPS antenna. I have seen different branded devices with same GPS and widely different GPS behavior.
As things stand the V3 has two major downsides: navigation capabilities and battery life. If those two would be improved the phone would be near-perfect.
