[Question] Best shipping for the USA?
#11
(2014-04-22, 08:40)nickdollahz Wrote: I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Since DHL only takes 3 days to get to me from china usually. Ive ordered 2 devices so far with DHL. Although the last device I ordered DHL gave me the wrong package but after calling I got it straighten out.

The DHL hub is about 30 mins away from where I live though. Ive never used EMS to receive a package. Although I did send one back USPS Express which used EMS. I think this is just a one off situation. DHL is usually pretty fast.

Yeah I guess the problem for me is that the nearest DHL hub is about 4 hours away. Not too sure why they couldn't get anyone to take the package though. Anywho, it is what it is. Sweet that it's so fast for you though.

Yes, being 4 hours away from the closest hub, they may pass it off to USPS. If the customer calls and gets anxious or makes a scene (not that you did, I'm just saying), DHL will sometimes make an exception and send someone out.

To answer your question from the OP, DHL is the best.

Sorry about that, at that time I was under the impression that they hadn't had any trouble transferring my package to another carrier so it seemed that it didn't matter. I'm not sure of all of the details but the lady today just said that they don't make many deliveries in my city, which makes sense. Anywho, for my unusual situation I think EMS is better seeing as the time-frame is about the same and the package will definitely be with USPS so if the delivery fails I can just pick it up at the PO. But that's just my take on it.

So in DHL's defense, if I'd gotten a straight answer out of them sooner I would have been happy with the situation. When my phone arrived I spoke with the courier when he brought the package to me at work, very nice of him to do that btw. It turns out that the news reports are wrong, DHL severely SCALED BACK deliveries in the US and sometimes they deliver themselves rather than transferring to other companies. I forget the exact numbers but he said they cut back their staff about 66% iirc. For my particular area he makes 3 trips a week and it's just him. To support the gentleman, who is happy to still have a job, I will most definitely continue to use DHL.

I'm a bit late into the conversation, but here is my view on deliveries. If you want fast, DHL is def the way to go. I usually have a 3rd party complete the last bit of the delivery for DHL but they must be tied into the DHL system because all the tracking info is good right up until the end. Downside to DHL is I ALWAYS get stung with another $20-$25 of fees and if I miss the delivery I have to drive 30 mins to go get it.
EMS takes about 6-9 business days but comes throught the mail so it's only a 2 minute trek to the post office to get it. Plus no extra fees! (most of the time)

I usually choose EMS, unless I need a really quick delivery.

Having ordered a lot of material from China, I have never had a problem with DHL. EMS is not bad, but DHL is superior.

In Miami, they have their own trucks and employees, so maybe that is the difference.
