[Question] Error message when creating CWM
#1
I have just rooted my phone using Framaroot and then followed the video tutorials to crate a backup. When I attempted to creat a cwm , I followed the prompts till I encountered an error message " warning . Possible damage to block. If phone is not loaded ... Do you want to install patched file ? "
I clicked no and exited. Please advise.
My phone is an MTK6582 s5 clone.

The message doesn't make perfect sense, but its enough to know that something went wrong with the creation or attempted install.

Which file was it trying to install? Is this an exact message or are you paraphrasing?

Regardless, If you have a dependable backup or ROM for your phone, go ahead.

Alternatively, you can attempt to create CWM from boot.IMG and install it with Mobile Uncle app or flash via sp flash tools.

I remember seeing the same error message when creating CWM. I think that comes up when building from the backup boot.img (is this the method you followed?).

You are supposed to click No, but the build should still go through.

Check the directory containing your Droid Tools executable and see if there is a folder named recovery. It should contain the CWM image file and the patched one being referred to. This was mentioned in ranpha's tutorial.

If you find the folder and files mentioned, use the recovery image file to update your recovery.

Thanks for the heads up. I checked my PC droid / recovery folder and found two files:
SM-G900S_140623_boot_patched_140729-110624 , disc image file , 4530 KB
AND
SM-G900S_140623_recovery_140729-110624, disc image file, 5372 KB

From your post it appears that I need to use the _recovery file to make a CWM file on my phone at which point I should be able to see the CWM on my phone?? Where?? Please elaborate - get as detailed as you possibly can. Or direct me to the tutorial where this is spelled out.

Thanks for your help.

Do you have Mobileuncle tools installed?
If so, copy the recovery image file to the root of your sd card.
In Mobileuncle, select recovery update and choose the recovery file you copied to your SD card.
You will be asked if you want to boot into the recovery. You can, so you can check it loaded correctly.

If you want to use sp flash tool, make a new file folder in your PC. Copy your scatter file and the new recovery image file.
Rename the file to 'recovery.img'
In spft, load the scatter file from THAT folder. Make sure only recovery is ticked.
Click download, disconnect phone, remove and insert batt, connect and wait.

This is just a summary of the end part of a few methods. The full tutorials are found in the tutorials forum. Yulipis and ranpha methods.

Good luck.

Thanks for your response. I have gone through Ranpha's tutorial today and can follow through on the instructions. However, I would like for you to clarify a couple of points:
1. Now that I have gone through the backup / create CWM process the first time, Ranpha mentions that the error message I originally posted comes up twice (2)! I got the prompt only once and then disconnected. Should I have waited? I checked my phone for the CWM folder and found it was empty.
2. Having done the process once ( albeit incompletely) should I delete all the files and run through the process from scratch? or just grab the .img file and use mobileuncle to make my recovery image.. and pray like hell that I dont brick my phone! Is it bad to run the backup process twice?

1. No, I don't think that's a problem. I got the message just once, too and it's fine, The 2 messages should have been for the patched boot (1) and the patched recovery (2). You would have declined to both, anyway.

Have you tried booting into recovery? If you see the CWM recovery then you're good to go.

What CWM folder are you referring to? If you have not yet done a backup, you should see the files in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/######-######/
It should contain boot and recovery image files, nandroid.md5, and your system backup files (.tar).

2. You mean backing everything up again in Droid Tools? No, that is not bad for your phone.

1. Have not tried booting into recovery as i'm not sure all the files are in the right place.
2. The CWM folder i'm talking about is on my phone NOT on the SD card as I just noticed that the default write disk is set to phone not SD card. I suppose that I should change that.
3. The Clockworkmod folder that you mentioned in your post " /sdcard..etc" was created directly to phone storage and is empty.
4. I have the Backup and Recovery folders in Droid Tools populated with stuff but as there is no point of reference, I dont know if all the files were created. Hence the question of starting again from scratch.
Based on your input, I'm going to try this again today.

Did you use Mobileuncle Tools to install the CWM?

If you followed the tutorial for full backup, you probably have a complete set. The !Files_to_FlashTool folder has 11 files in it.

Thanks - you were a great help. Re-ran the entire process and flashed into recovery using Mobileuncle. Yes, have all the 11 files and the clockwork mod files on the sd card. Dont know is its of concern ( down the road if I have to resort to unbricking ) but when the phone booted into recovery mode it started reloading device drivers and finally gave me a failed message. I tried going into device manager and manually choosing the MT6577 USB VCOM driver but it tells me that I have the most up to date driver installed. Any thoughts?
