need a phablet replacement for my S4
#1
hey guys...

before I make any purchases, the first question is... is it worth it to sell my Galaxy s4 i337 to upgrade to a phablet?

I use my phone to study and it requires a split screen of two texts. So I need a lot of space to be able to look at the left side for the original text, and the right side for the commentary of the text....

With that being my only major concern, I'm thinking of selling my S4 here, and using the money + a bit extra to buy a really good phablet so I can study on the bus daily with less difficulty..

So if it does make sense... Which phone to buy?

I really like the new Nexus 6, with dual speakers, QHD... but 700? Are you kidding me?

So looking at a phablet of some sort... I'd like to spend less then $300. I only play 1 game, Clash of Clans, and on the rare occasion I watch something on it. As I mentioned before, mainly I'm reading text, studying, and using it for work related stuff. So prime screen real estate is key. ALSO BATTERY LIFE!! I am sick and tired of having to take a charger everywhere with me.

In fact for my Galaxy s4 I was thinking of buying one of those zerolemon 8500mah battery extenders+case...

So to sum up:
-Big screen 6'+
-Dual speakers
-Massive battery
-Powerful enough for basic stuff, clash of clans...
-Ideally less then $300.

Thanks guys!

A year ago or so I was very active in whats going on with china phones, but not so much anymore...

BTW one of the factories in China mentioned this phone to me... A 1:1 note 4 clone... http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XODEyNTgyNT...pcqq.group

Waste of time?

Man, I can't tell you how much I love threads like this. Thanks for posting.

First of all, I must emphasize: DO NOT BUY A CLONE. Really, truly, honestly.... they are a really poor choice with faked specs, zero support, all sorts of problems. Please, please, don't buy a clone.

Now, for my story.
Once upon ago, I was new to Android. I had bought a Nexus 4. It was wonderful, and I loved it.... until I bought my girlfriend a Star S7589 China Phone. Even though on paper it was a less powerful phone than the Nexus 4, the huge display and ridiculous battery life made me soooo jealous. A month later I found myself on this forum asking questions, and a month after that I too got my very first Star S7589 China Phone. 5.7" of goodness, ridiculously huge battery. My Nexus basically sat on a shelf never to be used again. Now I have a THL T200C, which is even bigger, faster, more stable, and basically.... endlessly awesome. I am super, SUPER happy with it (and our user @usblaidas told me he loves his too). You can see my super-review-thread somewhere buried in this forum.

So, basically, I was where you were and now I am where I am today. And I LOVE it!

Whereabouts in the world do you live?
And what are you studying? (Not that it matters for the phone recommendations, just out of curiosity.)

Also, PS please please please please please don't buy a clone. I know I mentioned it before, but I feel that strongly about them. They are awful, man.

hey!

I am from Toronto Canada, and I am currently in..... drum roll.... ISRAEL! The #1 country in the news for some reason...

I moved back with my family a few months ago, and we are really happy to be here instead of Canada (which was great too).

I am studying something called "Gemara" Or maybe "Talmud". I know its (really shockingly) apparently getting popular in the East (which is not surprising as its the ultimate study text of all time but not made for independant learning since its a tradition passed down for thousands of years and I'm part of that system, learning from the previous generation currently...)...

So since I work full time (as the director of internet marketing for a nice American company), I squeeze in my learning during the travelling back and forth between work (40+ minutes each way...).

So you are basically telling me to look at the Star S7589 ? I will right now!

In the last day I've read a lot about the Oneplus One, and I'm sooo interested in that. But since I am a power user in the sense of using the phone and not wasting time trying to hit its limit maybe this one may be cheaper and work for me

No no no no no. The Star S7589 was really cool like 2 years ago. Don't get it now! It's now officially old and crappy. Don't buy a Star S7589!

This website shows Israel as having 2G running on 900 and 1800 MHz. 3G runs on 850/2100. Is that correct for your cell service?
http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html

If so, I have absolutely no hesitations in recommending the THL T200 (or T200C, which is unfortunately no longer available most places) for consideration. It's a 6-inch phablet that has treated me very well. Here are some links to them:
http://www.merimobiles.com/thl-t200_p/meri10243.htm
http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_23085.html
http://www.coolicool.com/thl-t200-mtk659...ne-g-32883

If you're seriously considering a OnePlus One (and you should -- it's a wicked cool phone), it's in the slightly smaller range at 5.5 inches. Amongst those the Doogee DG550 has been popular as well as the iNew V8. Neither are as powerful as the OnePlus or T200, but I've bought and used both. I recommend the Doogee first if you're in Israel, but they're both solid choices.

I'm sure there are others to consider. Hopefully more people will chime in with what they have and like, too.

By the way, very cool field of study. And very cool job. I like your style, friend!

thanks for the compliments Smiling

So the THL T200 is the clear recommendation for 6 inch... I like that its bigger and cheaper then the oneplus one.

I have 3 kids, the oldest is 6, so there is a big chance the phone will break within 1 year... I would rather spend less for that reason as well.

I have no problems recommending the THL T200, but that's primarily because I own one and love it. It's in my pocket right now. Hehe.

One more phone you may want to check out is the Asus Zenfone6. It too is a huge 6" phablet with 2GB of RAM, will get you 3G in your area, and is competitively priced. It has a dual-core Intel Atom processor which, unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with since I basically live in MediaTek (and Snapdragon) world.

I'm surprised more people haven't chimed in. This topic has come up a couple of times before. Linking to them:

hey guys about frequencies here, we have 850,900, 2100 for 3g mostly. I think LTE will be 2600

Hmmm. Frankly I haven't looked into any offerings that support LTE. It seems like I've mostly seen those in either super budget phones or in premium phones, but not in the "middle" so to say where I tend to live.

I just stumbled on this Elephone P8L. I know very little about it, but it may be worth considering as well. I Elephone has been getting some buzz around here lately, but I have yet to hear any solid reviews from users. The whole Elephone P8-series design seems strikingly similar to the Kingelon P8-series phones. In any case, here it is:
