Hero Star H9008 Review

some feedback , hope this is helpful , thanks to the contributor :

Good all around bang for buck smartphone

Posted by tts on 30th Jan 2014

This phone uses the "cheap" MTK 6592 8 core 1.7Ghz ARM7 + Mali450 GPU @ 700Mhz. Overall performance of this SoC is about on par with the Qualcomm SnapDragon S600 SoC but it tends to sell for significantly less.

The actual phone itself is well made. It feels and looks as good and well built as any other mid-high end smartphone. The screen itself is very beautiful and clear even at 50% power BTW. No creaking or rattling when you press or shake the phone. The default back looks and feels a lot like leather. Comes off and installs easily. Feels secure while installed. Also got a flip cover for it that is made of vynil. It has some magnets in it so the phone knows when the case is closed but the magnets won't hold the case closed FYI. Also if you fold the case over while holding it it will sometimes trigger the sensor in the phone causing to think you closed the case when you didn't, so be careful when you fold it back.

Battery time when used for texting, phone calls, and on standby is excellent. You can easily go a whole day without charging when using this smartphone as a phone only.

Only downside to the hardware of the phone itself is that the WiFi modem and HSPA/data modem both chew up power like you won't believe! Even with the screen brightness turned down to about half I get only about 30-40 minutes of battery time of WiFi or HSPA/data use. You better plug it into a charger or PC if you plan on messing around in the internet for a while.

Over all I'm quite happy with this phone and purchase, bang for buck is unbeatable for early 2014. If you're willing to wait until March-April 2014 then a 2Ghz version of the 6592 will be available in that time. An even faster 2.3Ghz 6592 should be coming around June. If you're going to wait that would be the one to wait for IMO since it has a big enough clockspeed boost to make it worth while. MUCH faster Qualcomm chips are coming too but be prepared to pay $rape$ for them. Not worth it at all IMO.

Other thoughts:
-Came with Android 4.2.2 installed, not 4.3. Asked if they could put Android 4.4.2 but they weren't able to do that. Bummer, but not a mark against merimobiles.com or the phone.

-Shipping was fast and on time, got the 2-3 day DHL shipping. Their tracking system sucks though, the package arrived before I was even able to track it!

-Battery that came with the phone was rated as 2800mAh, not the advertised 3000mAh. Not worth making a fuss over to me but just a FYI. Also the battery came in the phone but they had put a piece of tape over the contacts for shipping purposes which I had to remove before powering up the first time.

-Charges much more quickly when hooked up to a USB3 port but don't go expecting miracles, you'll still be waiting a while if the battery is drained low.

-Works fine with AT&T/T-Mobile Straighttalk SIM's. HSPA is awesome but sucks your battery dead fast. Reception is actually pretty good, I don't notice a difference from Verizon! I live in NW continental US.

-Wireless antenna range is wonderful on this phone. I get all sorts of stuff I couldn't even hope to get with my previous phone.

-Phone ear speaker is fairly quiet but has good quality sound, you'll need to turn it up to max most likely. Speech mic also isn't that sensitive either, requires careful positioning when talking or you have to talk louder to be heard well. Not yelling! Just talk louder and you'll be OK. Loud speaker is also a bit quiet but not bad.

-Vibrate is very strong but sucks power, turn it off if you text frequently.

-My hands are about 7" (18cm) in size and the phone fits comfortably in one hand. A little bigger than this and that wouldn't be true however.

Great feedback. I touched on most of the same stuff in my video review and agree with all of your points.

Odd, the one that came with mine says 3000mAh on it.

Mine also is labeled as 3000mAh but that doesn't mean that it really is. It certainly doesn't last like a 3000 should.
Crying

If anyone gets a chance to try one of the Actual Samsung Note 3 3200mAh batteries please let us know if it fits and if it lasts longer.

No chance of using Notes 3 battery. The size is smaller 80mm x53mm and thicker 5.5mm.

Got it from Merimobiles. It does have a window. Its made out of plastic. Looks fairly nice and is holding up well so far.
