Great topic.

I have a problem with GPS on my Xiaocai G6 (MTK6589) too.
It takes a long time to get GPS lock, and most of the time it does not get a GPS lock.

Have tried the engineering mode fix, fasterGPS fix, the .dat file fix. All seems does not fix the issue.

Now I just do not bother with the GPS.

Currently using google maps with 3g to navigate.

Waze does not work, shows up as a blank white screen.

I had a ZTE blade before and the GPS works without problem.

Would only buy a new MTK phone with strong GPS out of the box + LTE too Smiling

i don't think its true, i have the same phone, and made alot of fixing and no one of them work well enough to get locked, so i made one solid antenna with aluminium.

Is the GPS of the new MTK6592 cpu as bad as the previous Mediatek cpus?

Hero 7500+ gets a decent quick gps fix but the gps is nearly unusable because of the error ratio. The locations keeps jumping around even if it says that the precision is 4 meters. This seems to be a common problem and makes certain programs like Sygic unusable.

The new MTK cpu which is announced for Q3 2014 looks great Glonass support though.

With MTK6582 processor or with MTK6589T?

Thanks!.

Ivreo

The clue is the T in N9599T which has the MTK6589T and the N9599 which has the MTK9599, watch out for sellers sending N9599 instead of a N9599T.

this thread may be useful or helpful if you encounter erratic gps signal after some time of using your gps .. thanks to the contributor below :

Simple Fix for your GPS - Samsung Galaxy S III
Hi,

I have a simple GPS fix that worked for me. After posting and sharing in other forums this fix has also worked for many others who were frustrated with their GPS' not working, not locking onto satellites, and their phones acting erratically while navigating. Although this method seems too easy to be true, trust me it works and many people have confirmed that this method worked for them too and are now happy that their phone has a functional GPS and in some cases improved call quality.

I as well as many others performed many of the other fixes such as flashing back to stock, performing numerous battery pulls, using aGPS patches, making numerous edits to the gps.conf file, reprovisioning our phones, checking different ROMs, uninstalling/reinstalling Google Maps, clearing data for Google Maps and Google Service Framework, and so on. So before you do all of that please give my method a try.

I discovered this simple fix when I was trying to perform one of the other GPS fix procedures. The procedure required me to pull my battery. I noticed that when I removed my back cover the back frame that has all the screws (10 total) was slightly loose on the left side. Once I tightened them all my GPS worked immediately! Like I said, this method has been tested by many people and most of them report great success just by tightening their screws. If this method works for you you'll also notice that in addition to getting faster locks your navigation will work and won't drop your GPS signal.

Like I said it may not work for everyone but I would recommend that if you have a Samsung Galaxy S III definitely check the back frame of your phone and make sure you tighten the screws and make sure everything is secure. You too should now be able to achieve GPS locks consistently.

I hope this helps. If it does, as it has many others, please click thanks.

Cheers,
Syintiphic

For me the GPS on this phone is a big disappointment .Yes, great at getting a cold lock very fast but it won't maintain the correct location while driving, it has you jumping around the map so it's constantly misdirecting you. Also looking for a MTK phone with a great working GPS.

(2013-12-28, 07:14)slack Wrote: Bad GPS signal reception is related to bad antennas that are used in phones and tablets. MTK receivers are not guilty for bad reception.
I use Goclever M713G (MT6577 + MT6620) as a GPS navigation when i drive and it had very bad GPS reception. I have tried many software related solutions, but none of them helped. I was sure that it was not a software related problem, but I did not know if the problem was due to GPS antenna or GPS receiver, so finally I made a reradiating GPS antenna. So with this reradiating GPS antenna that I made, GPS signal is very strong, now I have GPS lock in few seconds (without reradiating GPS antenna i have lock in about 3 to 5 minutes, and GPS signal is poor).

Hello,

can you do video or step by step instructions for reradiating GPS antenna?Smiling

I really want to fix my GPS in my phone and I tryid everything exept reradiating antenna... How can I do it??

Thx,

D.L.
