I just got my i6000 from DX. Is it worth upgrading the firmware and using that or should I just root the phone and use another rom. What would be the differences? So far I have been unable to get anything other than 2g to work with the stock (shipped) firmware. Does anyone think this new build will correct that issue? Using US Tmobile.

For root, follow the sticky in this forum.
Regarding 2g, you'll likely never get anything other than 2g with T-Mobile. T-Mobile is 1900. You need to be on AT&T or AT&T MVNO and be in an area where AT&T supports 850.

Only 2g? Well that's no good. I was finally able to root and now am ready to flash the rom. Is there any best practices on prepping the phone for the rom? Partitioning, formatting, deletions before using CWM to flash it? Thanks.

Hi !
I had my i6000 running on rooted stock for a while & it was okay.
What really negged me was the charger problem: It won't charge on some USB chargers of mine and the tochscreen went crazy on some of the chargers.
This Bug is solved on many of the new ROMS.
I am using the latest stock ROM for the Firefly V65 now !
(FireflyV65-MTK6589T.1009 from needrom).
This is fine, i cannot see much of a differemce but that pesky charge bug is gone.
I can charge on each of my chargers and the screen keeps beeing precise while charging !
So thats my recommendation :-)
But if you are fearful the i6000 stock rom is fine but you should root if if you miss one of the zillion apps that need root.
(FIRST i always install is adaway, not available in the Google Play store, google for it).
Greetings,
Ender
P.S. by the way, IF you decide to use a different firmware, may use the known patch for giving more flash to internal space and less to internal SD Card !
I have 4GB / 28GB and thats perfect for me !
