[Tutorial] Testing for true root
#11
bryfly.......I have had to edit this page so re-read pls

From your other MAC post we can reveal that you tested and did not have true root as per
Quote:u0_a109@Coolpad8297W:/ $ su
u0_a109@Coolpad8297W:/ # id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=1015(sdcard_rw),1028(sdcard_r),3003(inet),50109(all_a109)

Those tests show multiple fails as follows:
id response did NOT reveal uid=0(root) gid=0(root) but extras
su response did NOT have prompt change to root@Coolpad8297W
There was also a third fail in the other post but one test failing is sufficient for me to be brutal and declare your device lacks true root.

This was also true of my device and I have some experience and getting my device to true root device status.

The MAC stuff is off topic to this theme so only when we have true root for device 2, will I reply on your other post.
The goal is to get true root onto your duplicate device to then allow us to spoof your MAC this is just the first stage in
that journey.

Lets try this as simple as I can make it.
Device1 means the coolpad that works with router (wlan0 MAC is accepted)
Device2 means the coolpad does not work as duplicate wlan0 MAC.

I assume your devices have microsd cards?
Please advise if you have one or both.....as if this method fails.....I have another method but its ugly. Unmentioned method2

Method 1 only
############
Turn off Device1 and 2 and then turn on only Device2

Enable Wireless and input the WPA2 password thru system settings

Download and install the first 2 playstore apps Android Terminal and busybox as mentioned in the first post.

Download the su apk mentioned in the first post.....when you go to install it ---it will advise you it will attempt to use CWM to install

2) I need you to report all results
device2 wireless ok
router password into device2 accepted
playstore works
Did you install that terminal
busybox installed
Do you have CWM installed
--------if not, do you TWRP recovery installed?
Do you have a removable storage card ( microsd or similar)
---------You appear to have a mediatek chipset so you can use mobileuncle but I will wait for your advice.

Were you able to download SuperSu
Did it install

I will wait for your advice.....but later on ....we will attempt to remove the Chinese su apk......but I want confirmation of above pls

Hopefully you will reply as your previous reply helped me edit my first post to talk about the su apk and stuff. So the more information you can supply the more you will help yourself and your understanding of what we are doing......which will help others.

I will be bold and tell you that I already suspect your device is like mine. And your /system is currently in read only mode which is secure. But there are ways of evading or moving around this issue.

good luck

Thanks for assistance

2) I need you to report all results

device2 wireless ok.................................................yes
router password into device2 accepted................yes
playstore works.........................................................yes
Did you install that terminal....................................yes
busybox installed......................................................yes
Do you have CWM installed
Do you have a removable storage card ( microsd or similar) Both devices have 8gb micro sd cards

mobileuncle already installed ..............................yes

Were you able to download SuperSu......................yes (it replaced the Chinese one)
Did it install..................................................................yes

Download the su apk mentioned in the first post.....when you go to install it ---it will advise you it will attempt to use CWM to install , I get the choice to use cwm or normal I always choose normal and it goes in ok, this seems to remove the Chinese SU

Having said yes to the above, I sometimes have to re-root and re install Super su and busybox as some of the Chinese progs I have tried, wipe them out .

Thanks

EDIT DONE
Wow we have come a long way.

I wonder if you have CWM installed as it was not clear in your reply

2) redo that install but pls choose cwm way
Don't worry if you don't understand it.....CWM will attempt to do all its stuff
It happens so fast.....all I saw was a window of one circle and then the option to reboot etc

2) I don't want to truly delete that Chinese su and any others you have until we get su working correctly
I repeat.....your new su apk does NOT delete any other apk......just deletes the executable

so on reboot we have the same problems

When you go into the normal apps area.....so you can launch one.....can you see the Chinese su app?

Mine was a triangle icon in orange with an S inside it....but description in Chinese (HAN)

3) by the way, do you know if you need those Chinese apps?
For example I changed my launcher to Nova
web browser Dolphin
File manager ES file Explorer etc

Once you have all English apps its a heck of a lot easier to use playstore.

Yes have cwm installed, reinstalled Super su via cwm this shut down phone to CWM, faced with choice to "disable recovery flash" yes / no ,choose no, phone rebooted to normal.

yes su is yellow triangle with red # inside

think i have changed all apps to english, launcher = apex, file manager = root browser, web browser= chrome.

cheers

ok lets try to uninstall that Chinese app
system settings -> apps

find it click into it

see if it offers to uninstall or delete
choose either

2) if you lose su completely and lost from playstore we can root your phone via a rooting tool or install supsu via sdcard

good luck

uninstalled chinese su, installed Super Su by chainfire, still shows Chinese symbol. tried the same - reboot -then install Super Su = the same Chinese symbol................root still there.

new edit
Yes I edit a lot sorry about that, but I am mind reading

1) Please install google app=
[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

It has an option by pressing the settings button on your device to allow root mode and also show hidden files
Do so pls

2) Lets confirm you have not lost SuperSu
Since you used playstore it will be in /data/app and is called eu.chainfire.supersu* as attached image

3) Assuming its still there after reboot
your Chinese app will be in /system/app
not sure what its called

use your root powered file manager to delete the apk and reboot
good luck

great will be awake for a wee bit longer but the brain is another matter

ok open ES file manager

on your device you should have a minimum of 3 permanent "buttons" they are
settings home and (return one screen )
the return one screen looks like a backward arrow

These FAINTLY show up in attached image. Om my phone they are permanent to screen not software related buttons

press the settings icon and swipe down to this area and tick the box for root and hidden files
----when you want to do root stuff

turn off root pls to reduce fat fingers doing things

2) when you have found Chinese app

long press it.....will bring up a tickable box area to right hand side
tick it
bottom of screen offers a delete rubbish bin trash can or whatever you call it

3) I have asked for a sexy nurse to look after you without the wide diameter needle

4) you may like to notice that when you push the Android settings button
ES FM will display its internal settings button at bottom of screen

you may prefer to play with this....but suggest you choose to touch into display settings
-> tick the box for----show the select button

When you hit the return button and navigate to /system/app
bottom of ES menu has a SELECT at bottom left hand corner
touch it
boxes will now appear at RH edge of file listings
tick the box for the relevant app
---> bottom menu bar now offers a delete rubbish bin

That will save you doing a LONG press on a file to do something with

Pls confirm that in /data/app you have not lost supersu pls
