iNew octacore (iw6000)?
#1
So, has anyone heard anything about this new version of the iNew octacore i6000 yet? What are the exact differences with the quadcore (apart from MTK chip)? Not planning to exchange my iNew, but just curious.

I may be the single voice of dissent, but I remain skeptical that more cores is necessarily "the answer" so much as it is a marketing point. I plan on holding judgment until we actually see some legit phones come to market and experience real-world demands. More cores obviously provides more parallel processing power, but how much of that utilization is actually realized? Are more cores better or worse for battery life?

All that said, if I buy a new gizmo anytime soon the i6000 is near the top of my list and if the octocore is competitively priced... I might just be that giddy little guinea pig.

I feel Mediatek should first improve the cores they already have... if that makes any sense. I think at this point, a good quad core is much better than a slower 8 core. The quad core Snapdragon 800 scores over 35k on antutu while the 6589t gets around 15k on a good day.

Now, you might say antutu means nothing, it's all about real everyday use... but let me tell you, there's a big difference in everyday use between the 2 CPUs. Scrolling through home screens, opening apps, snapping photos are all buttery smooth on my new Sony (Snapdragon 800) whereas the i6000 was just not as smooth as I expected (and needed) it to be. Simply drawing in drawing apps was laggy, home screen scrolling not perfect... heck, the new free Plants vs Zombies 2 was unplayable as the fps was too low.

I'm just saying that I think 4 more slow cores will not fix those problems, especially because most apps at this point aren't even made to take advantage of those extra cores anyway.

PS I didn't come here to gloat about my new phone... just trying to make a point.

It's very rare that I find my 4-cores taxed to maximum on MT6589. Most bottleneck issues with graphics are due to GPU, not CPU. MT6592 will have a significant boost in GPU power with Mali-450 MP4

Regardless, I play high-end 3D games on MTK6589 no problem, so not sure what the problem could have been with Plants vs Zombies 2.
