Using data from the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile, astronomers now reconfirm that the iconic Pillars of Creation; a strikingly majestic fixture of the deep sky, are basically toast. In roughly three million years, the researchers report that radiation and stellar winds from a plethora of nearby massive stars are likely to completely destroy the three familiar pillars’ humbling morphology.
