This tutorial will show you how to flash a ROM onto Zenfone 2. Specifically I'll be linking to rooted ROMs, but the process is the same for flashing most any ROM onto the Asus Zenfone 2. For example switching from CN or TW ROM to WW ROM. In this Zenfone 2 rooting tutorial, we'll be covering flashing a full ROM.

  2. [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]. This is what will allow you to put the system.img together from the various parts.

  3. When WinRAR is running, click on the '.zip' part of the system.img file. For this particular download, it will be Z00A_WW_2.15.40.10_system_w_root.zip. You will see that WinRAR puts all the parts together and offers you an option to extract the one big system.img. Go ahead and extract it to the folder the other parts of the ROM are in.

  4. [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register] and extract them to the same folder as the ROM files. You may also need to install adb drivers. These are located at the same link.

  5. On your PC, navigate to the folder that contains the ROM and adb/fastboot files

  6. In a blank space in the folder (not on a file line), *Shift+Right-click* and select "Open command window here"

  7. Boot your Zenfone 2 into fastboot mode. This is done in one of two ways. First method is with phone powered off, hold VolUp+Power. After phone vibrates twice, remove finger from power and wait until fastboot mode shows. If you can't access fastboot this way then boot into Android, become a developer (tap "build" seven times in phone settings > phone info, then hit back button and tap 'Developer Options' and select 'USB Debugging'). Connect your phone to PC and allow any dialog permission requests from PC. Type in cmd Windows box "adb reboot fastboot".

  8. Now that you're a) fastboot mode b) your phone is connected to the PC and c) you have the cmd window open in the directory with the ROM in it, you're good to go. Type these commands for flashing over the various parts of the ROM:

Welcome, man. You bring up an excellent point.

The ZE500CL has a different GPU and display, so using this ROM may softbrick you. Currently no pre-rooted ROM available yet. (Only for ZE500ML and ZE551ML)

If you must try it, just flash system.img. This may work, but its unlikely. Do not flash over recovery, boot, and especially not fastboot. Make sure you have a proper system.img available for your phone so you can flash it back if any issues.

My advice is to wait. Someone should eventually get a rooted ROM up for your model.

Yes, no problem. You can switch to rooted CN or rooted WW. Your choice. I changed link in top post. That is latest rooted ROMs.
I rooted my phone by following your method but the latest ROM I downloaded was CN version and without Play Store and Google Support. Can you tell which ROM in the stock is WW version with Root. Thanks.

Hello, man. Download the WW version and follow the same process. It's in the ROM link. I assume you have Z00A (551ML). If you have more problems, just let me know.

Hi.

Would I need the bootloader unlocked in order to flash this ROM?

I've looked everywhere but can't find how to unlock the bootloader.

Thanks
