You play the adb shell better than Johnny B. Goode with his guitar !

Dear all:

I have a HTC 728 running MT6753 chipset.

I am trying to following your instruction, and I got stuck at Step 6.

root@linux:~# adb shell
shell@htc_a50cml_dtul:/ $ cd /dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/by-name
/system/bin/sh: cd: /dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/by-name: Permission denied
2|shell@htc_a50cml_dtul:/ $

I ran into this permission problem in both Linux and Windows.

When I am on Linux, I tried super user, I tried fakeroot, and none of these works.

I can get into /dev/block directory, but I don't have any access (read/write/execute) beyond /dev/block

any idea?

Thanks

Harv
Found my problem: I didn't read instruction clearly.

My phone wasn't rooted.

But my entire goal is to back up stock recovery.img file without custom recovery. My previous attempt of flashing custom recovery broke OTA.

Here is my question of the day. I have an old version of stock recovery.img file. The phone since had 2 OTA.

would this old stock recovery file still work typically? I know that recovery doesn't change as quickly, but I would like to hear from a bit more experienced user.

Thanks
