Not sure if this is up your alley OP, but have Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro (Pro version is 2gb/16gb) on hand and its a winner. Not ultra powerful, but excellent background app management, running Android butter and great price.
The Blackview Zeta is an excellent buy for the price as mentioned. Seriously. Lost, stolen, broken. No big deal. It's $80 and runs Android smoothly. To my eyes 720p looks very good on a 5" display + benefits of price & battery life vs 1080p.
