I suppose "better" is subjective, but the THL 5000 has better specifications on the whole (higher res display, better camera, faster processor, more memory)
One of the major downsides of the 5000 is that it does not have the 1900 and 900 WCDMA/3G band. The THL 5000t does. If you require those frequencies, then the decision becomes much easier.
Also, take into account that the lower res display of the 5000t should result in some more battery life.

My 5000t is my back up phone. I would get the 5000 if it was my primary phone. The difference in battery life wouldn't be an issue despite the higher specs. You'd just have to charge it every two days instead of three days! ☺
