Apple's iPhone team has had a rough week in the spotlight. Error 53 may be rooted in Tim Cook's approach to security, but it was pitched as a software error that 'bricked' devices when the secure elements of an iOS-powered device were disrupted. The recently promoted issue of a date crashing and bricking an iPhone is a rather esoteric flaw in the code, but has still led to more headlines about irretrievably crashing iPhones. Why can't iOS fail gracefully?
