Is Earthly life premature from a cosmic perspective?

The universe is 13.8 billion years old, while our planet formed just 4.5 billion years ago. Some scientists think this time gap means that life on other planets could be billions of years older than ours. However, new theoretical work suggests that present-day life is actually premature from a cosmic perspective.

This is old news. It's long been thought that to get to a stage where a planet has life would take at least this long.

I think the issue in finding other intelligent life is the comparatively minuscule time spans that a species exists before it wipes itself out or gets wiped out. There may be/will be/has been untold millions of different planets with intelligent life. The crux, as with most things in life.... Timing. Warp 10 might help as well. :|
