This type of attack is horrible to prevent and remove. I wasted too many hours over the years fixing home and business PCs affected by such malware.

The most affective and efficient fix is to wipe the drive completely and reinstall the Operating System. This is a great example of why backing up your data is critical, as something like this will destroy it all without warning!
