SOLVED: Decided on ZP998. Review in a few weeks, possibly

Hi peeps. First time caller, long time listener...

It's tax rebate time in the US, and that gives me an excuse for a new phone. I've searched, and really like the Jiake V8

The phone does have a couple issues, only 720p and i'll be using metroPCS (t-mobile subsidiary), so the 3g is "roaming".

So, I'm looking to spend around $250USD. here's what I'm looking for:
  • 14 - 16 cm screen (5.5 - 6.5 inch)
  • MTK 6592 or equivalent chip
  • At least one of 850 MHz / 1900 MHz (1900 preferred)
  • At least one of 850 MHz CLR / 1700 MHz AWS / 1900 MHz PCS (1900 preferred)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB ROM
  • SDHC
  • 720p
  • Font camera <= 2MP
  • Rear camera <= 10 MP
  • LED flash
  • GPS + A-GPS
  • Bluetooth
  • known / proven root method
  • USB OTG
  • 802.11 b/g/n wireless
  • Google play

I think not having the following is worth about $25 less:
  • "Air Gestures"
  • "S pen"

I would be willing to pay up to $50 more (depending on item) for at least one the following:
  • All frequencies listed in first list
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB ROM
  • SDXC
  • 1080p
  • rooted by factory / seller
  • available fully functioning AOSP ROM
  • "Gorilla glass"
  • NFC

I would be willing to pay as much as $100 more for any of the following:
  • MTK 6595 or equivalent with big.LITTLE (I don't think any are out, but...)
  • 700 MHz Block A LTE plus All frequencies listed in first list
  • 1700 MHz AWS LTE plus All frequencies listed in first list

So, other than the one I linked to, can anyone recommend a phone? I looked at the ZP980+, but the fact it's only 12.7cm and no s-pen turns me off.

You could take a look at the H9008, Mlais MX69T Pro, or if you want to go with a 6.5" display maybe the Mlais MX65. Also you can find the Zopo ZP998 for under $300 now.
Good luck.

I must say I am seriously impressed with the MX69(T). I do have a question on the two apparent models (mx69 vs mx69T) i've asked in that forum about, but I'm leaning heavily towards getting it. The only issue is it doesn't have a "s-pen", although I've come across the "c-pen", which is only a capacitive stylus, but with a finer 3mm tip. personally I never understood why, even with the switch from resistive screens we stopped using styli.

NQS: I'm not sure that I understand your question. If you're asking the difference between the two, my best guess appears that the MX69T supports dual-SIM 3G where as the MX69 does not.

If you're asking about why we don't use styluses anymore, I'm on your side. I keep a pen on me at all times, and since getting my smartphone I've been wanting to switch to the Zebra Stylus Pen, since it's the best of both worlds.

(My phone has a stylus, but it just seems better to have both around for all occasions.)
From What I can find, the big difference is the T has NFC and usb 3.0. I don't care about usb generation, but NFC... Worth a few extra dollars, IMO.

The S-penis a digitizer pen, it reacts when placed near or on the screen. the c-pen is a capacitive stylus, like the zebra. what I find interesting is the tip is 1/2 the size of the zebra.

I'm eyeballing it, but I'd say that the digitizer pen on this laptop (wacom OEM) can be as far as 10mm off the screen and still move the cursor or "left click". The S-pen is supposed to work the same way.

One other question, I'm considering Merimobile, 1949deal, and androidcarts. First, any problems with any of these companies, second, for a US address, what can I expect to pay in customs tax?

Go with h9008. It is same phone but minus NFC. This forum is not associated with Merimobiles anymore. We recommend choose one of the current sponsors for the best supports. So in that light, whichever has the better price for the phone you want would be my recommendation.

In USA, you unlikely to pay any customs. Ask them make the value $50 or less.
I agree with nexustrix. My h9008 is pretty good. Rom has no issues, my only complaints would be it can get fairly hot and the on screen time is not so good. Overall its a descent phone for the price.
I usually ship ems to avoid any taxes etc. Just get them to put it as a low value.

So, wait, the h9008 doesn't have NFC? at that price, that's almost a deal breaker for me.

My h9008 doesn't have NFC. Sorry for the bad news.
Well, right now androidcarts has the h9008 @ $295. What bothers me is the pictures look like the mx69, not the mx69t. in particular, it's missing the upper left LED.

in regards to the above discussion, i'm having second thoughts, and am re-considering the zp998 for $4 from same supplier. unsure which one i'll choose, but... Too bad I can't have it all, LTE, NFC, 1080P, etc, at the price I want
