If you flashed a recovery and it's booting to stock recovery, that means you flashed a stock recovery or the recovery wasn't successfully flashed. Most likely you're not doing it correctly. It MUST be named recovery.img and at the base of your SD.
Also, you must be rooted prior to flashing it.

I am on V0.8 build, and would like to update to V0.9. Flash tool gives me problems, reports some wrong usb driver error. I found somebody's nandroid backup with V0.9. Can I restore that one through CWM, and will it mess up my IMEI, if that is also a part of nandroid?

Normally a CWM is made to work with a particular ROM. Since it was made earlier in the year, it probably was for 4.2.2. It still may work though if paths haven't changed.
You can make your own if you have boot.img from the stock ROM.

does this recovery work on the kitkat version with buildnumber G807_D_H_CUBOT_V0.2_20140924? i am new at this so help is welcome
