Does anyone know if the 3D Mushroom Garden is a reliable app/wallpaper?
Because it's factory pre installed on the s5, the thing is when you read the permissions you can see that it's granted to do completely access the network (why ? it's a live wallpaper), read phone id etc. and access active apps, access accounts etc etc.

I don't trust it but I love the live wallpaper it's nice to see.

If you don't trust the version they put on the phone, you can uninstall it and then install directly from Play.

I think he means the permissions are strange for a simple wallpaper.
Check the permissions tab on the play store:

Quote: full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.

read phone status and identity
Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. This permission allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call.

retrieve running apps
Allows the app to retrieve information about currently and recently running tasks. This may allow the app to discover information about which applications are used on the device.
Stefanic understood me right, the issue is that it is a simple live wallpaper with no other functions or so. So why are the permissions set so high.

Nig,

I understood you 100%. I was taking it a step further.

The app has been on Play for a long time and has hundreds of thousands of downloads and a very high rating. THUS, the app from Play is fine, regardless of permissions.

As to the Chinese installed version... That's the question you maybe should be asking yourself. It's PROBABLY fine as well, but if you're concerned at all, install the version from Play is the safest bet.
Big Grin Ok I must admit that you are right at that point, if google is checking the apps regularly.

Well, I can't say 100% that all Google Play apps are 100% safe. The one that came on your S5 is probably okay, I just mean that you can feel more safe with the app from Play than from China. Smile
