the current gps config in root/etc file has one line ...ntp_server=us.pool.ntp.org

I get a view of up to 16 satellites using gps test but no fix , even after 1/2 hour of sitting outside.

tried to replace the gpsconfig file with this... ( thinking it may help )

NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/
xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/
xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/
xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276

but when i try i keep getting it is read only.

using root browser i get a "failed" notice...so i now am trying FX that gives me the "item is read only" message.

steps i take -
1) open fx and copy the "new" gps config to clipboard
2)open system(root) and mount it to r/w
3)open etc folder and set it to r/w
4) then when i paste the copied file I am asked if I want to replace/merge etc...i say replace/merge
5) then i get a file cannot be written error and the etc folder jumps back to being mounted as read only.
6) i have to reboot to be able to get the r/w permission granted again but can't get paste the error when trying to paste the file .

I hope this makes sense to those reading it ...I know the gps in my phone is not the best but neither mine nor my wifes gps functions seem to work ( same phone bought at same time )

thanks in advance for any help

tried that one already,,, , no luck . Sad

but thanks for the prompt reply Big Grin

OK ,
I kept tinkering and tried the aluminum foil antenna mod found on this site.
( I honestly tried it before with no luck )
BUT... this time I went through all the steps to start gps test.... 16 in view , no fix ...

I set the phone down on the aluminum trim of my porch window to sigh in disgust , and complain to the mrs ...
but in about 15 seconds I looked at the phone and it had a fix on 6 !

I then removed the foil mod...
took about 5 inches of a very fine wire , stripped the insulation off , and taped it to the antenna area of my phone , the remaining 4 inches is running on the outside of the phone under the cover....

Now i get fix on satellites in a very short time .

I just need to test tomorrow on the way to work to see if the lock stays on the satellites while in motion.
