I’m new at this, having just done my first firmware upgrade.

My question relates to the Zopo ZP700 ROM.

From Zopo’s website I was directed to download their latest firmware from an all Chinese website. Somehow I was able to poke around and get the ROM.
When I look at the folder and file structure comparing the ZOPO ROM with a ROM from Needrom, I notice a couple of folders in Zopo’s ROM that are not in the Needrom ROM. They are: “Database” and “TP_Upgrade”.

I also note some differences in file sizes in the root directory, and two files in the Needrom ROM that are not in the Zopo ROM. They are: "APDB_MT6582_S01_KK1.MP1_" and "BPLGUInfoCustomAppSrcP_MT6582_S00_MOLY_WR8_W1315_MD_WG_MP_V34_1_wg_n"

I would appreciate it if someone could provide more information about why they differ and which ROM I should use.

I don’t want to render the phone useless. I’ve never had to do a recovery if I did.

Thanks.
hi, RJ7. Welcome to the forum.

APDB and BPLGU files should probably also be in the Database folder from Zopo. These files are used in cases that flashing causes problems with your baseband/serial number.
TP_Upgrade, I'm guessing is a driver update for touch panel? I am not entirely sure.

If you plan on flashing anything, make sure you make all necessary backups. See the tutorials forum ([Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]) for the necessary guides. Full phone backup, NVRAM...

Zopo provides good support, that ROM is probably good.
If the NeedROM version is tagged as official, I guess it should be okay too. Review the comments on the ROM.
Try waiting for someone with the same phone who's tried either ROM to reply here. Just to verify that either one is okay.

Of course, there is always a risk in flashing anything.
Athos,
Thank you for your very helpful reply.
I see nothing in the needrom ROM post that states it is "official." My understanding is that the user extracted it (perhaps from an official) and posted it.
I've written to ZOPO several times without response. Their website also has a lot of 404 error pages, including "download." I also find it interesting that the ZP700 is not in their forum and does not appear in their service page for parts.
I appreciate the link to the tutorial, and I will definable spend time here.
I'm sure that I'll have more questions, and I appreciate the support.
