Not at all, you did right to mention the use of quotes.

To clearify a little bit more, quote uses various forms:

Code:
[quote]  -  a nameless quote, mainly to be used for quoting some text that doesn't form part of an existing post, like text from another site.

[quote='username']  -  a quote from text published within the forum. This could be from an exisiting post, or an article published by some user. The username must exist on the forum. (* see the note below)

[quote='username', pid='postid']  - quote from an existing post. It's username must exist and the postid should refer to the existing post (each post has a unique postid which can be see by hovering the mouse-pointer over the post #

[quote='username', pid='postid', timeline='timecode']  -  the most complete quote, which includes the date and time of the quoted post. Using the reply button beneath a post, the quote will have this form showing the date and time in the upper right corner of the quote.

*NOTE:
There is also a tricked form to quote text from a different website.
This is the second form but replacing username with the web-address of the quoted site:
Code:
[quote='https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=chinaphonearena']...
Chinaphonearena

This is a very handy trick to quote partial information from outside the forum as you can quote the part you want to show while maintaining a link to the original page (just before Wrote:), as you can see I used the triple dots to indicate this is a partial quote.

If there's a lot of text involved, to avoid what @aus9 mentioned, you could use a spoiler inside the quote, like this:
Code:
[quote='https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=chinaphonearena']cpa's google result.
[spoiler]...
Chinaphonearena
www.chinaphonearena.com/
Root your Android. Android and China Phone MTK6589 Forum Community dedicated to having a quality user base. All about Android, Mobile phone Reviews,
...
[/spoiler]
[/quote]

which looks like this:
