Teens with earlier school start times have higher crash rates

Teen drivers who start class earlier in the morning are involved in significantly more motor vehicle accidents than peers with a later high school start time, a study shows. The results underscore the importance of the 'Awake at the Wheel' campaign of the National Healthy Sleep Awareness Project.

The early bird gets the worm. Unless the early bird gets wound up with the police for 2 extra hours because of a car wreck.

The worm is a lie. The myth that "people who rise early are more productive" has been thoroughly debunked. It's too bad that we continue to perpetuate this in our work and school models, though.
It would be interesting to see the start time for work and school set forward by a couple of hours... But then perhaps the elderly would have the edge up, as they naturally wake so early.
I suppose for older students who are old enough to drive/feed/dress themselves etc... This wouldn't be a factor though.
