Raspberry Pi 2 Quad Core at $35

raspberry_pi2The famous development board from the Raspberry Pi foundation, that has greatly impacted software development, now exists on a whole new level. It was previously announced that the second generation of the Raspberry Pi wouldn’t be released until 2017. This encouraged a lot of people to invest in the RasPi B+ model. Much to the […]

For the same price there are better alternatives out there. They are all inter-compatible, like the banana pi, orange pi, cubieboard, radxa and more.

And for a bit more, $60 range, there are some quad core boards, like the cubieboard4, banana pi pro, orange pi pro and a few others. some of these are capable of android 4.4 + and 5.0, linux and raspberry distro's. ANd soon to come windows 10 is available for the testing with these newer devices

And to note Nvidia has it's Jetson TK1 out for developers also. This is the board killer at the moment, impressive for the price.
Can't agree with "the same price". none of the competitors are able to take their prices down to match the Raspis.

It may look like a small difference to some, but $35 vs $50 or $60 is a big deal to others.

The article does say the Raspi will also get Windows 10 in addition to Linux, raspbian, etc. And will be able to run Android. Some of these derivative boards are actually built around the developed raspbian oses from raspberry pi.

The tk1 Dev kit is just too expensive. $300 for a kit. Wow.

$35 and it runs Windows 10 is a huge win.

$35 vs $60+... well, I agree. That is almost a 100% price differential!
Here is a nice mainstream article on the new Pi from USAToday. Hopefully, with exposure like this and Windows 10, it will really begin to take off!

I can envision a basic but specialized 1080p "Pi 2 monitor" (maybe even one model with touchscreen capabilities), built in stereo speakers, 3.5mm passthrough to the front for headphones, pass through Pi 2 5v/2.5a microUSB power tied to a dedicated power switch on the front and tiny basket to hold the form factor/cables.

Can't forget an Omnivision 5647 camera built in with mic for Skype on top (it is the only compatible model to my knowledge), at least 2 front/2 side facing powered USB hubs on monitor, 4 rear powered USB hubs for bluetooth and WiFi adapters, USB Sticks.

Add a 32Gb Fat32 SD card for boot/storage plus a 64Gb or 128Gb USB stick, and now we are getting somewhere!!

The monitor, bluetooth mouse, bluetooth keyboard, Pi2 mounted and plugged in, Extra Pi in the drawer with an exact copy of your 32GB Fat32 SD card and same sized USB stick, and you could be back up and running from a catastrophic failure in seconds... literally.

In the end, assuming Microsoft does not completely cripple Windows 10 "Pi edition" with some worthless garbage (does anyone remember Windows CE?), this could be a huge winner!

The monitor spec above would be cheap, unless you needed a monster screen. The Pi 2 is cheap, SD cards are cheap, as are USB sticks, WiFi dongles, and Bluetooth.

Cool. Develop on your "Pi Computer" and test with another Pi device on the bench next to you. Perfect.
