Hi all,
after getting my new TCL S720 im pretty impressed .
Only issues im having is for some apps for example flashscore im not getting notifications when a team scores , yes i have checked app settings to see if notifications on & phone settings too.
Im also getting a problem with the play store which the app is here but when going in im getting "no connection" ( i could get away with this as i was using aptoid & mobomarket)
i believe its also come rooted as i have Superuser app & its asking for permissions everytime app added .
if i could get notifications to work i would not be looking to try out another rom but would be good to add a rom where i could get these fixes.
So after all that my question is what rom is compatible for the TCL S720
thanks in advance
Jamie
hi, Jamie. I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. Have you updated to the latest ROM version? Is this a new phone?
for the Play Store issue, try clearing Play Store app's cache and data in Settings>Apps>All
you will need to re-enter your Google account info after clearing your data, though.
I've also read about a fix with editing/deleting the hosts file in the /etc folder. I haven't tried that yet, so I'm not very confident about recommending it. Try clearing your cache first.
Same with the apps that won't push notifications. Try to clear cache and data (if you can spare it) and re-assert your preferences.
I saw a few custom ROMs for your phone, but users seemed happiest with this one

Additionally, here is a copy of the stock ROM

On the other custom ROMs, people were having problems with camera drivers, so please be cautious about flashing. Even if you have a stock ROM link, I recommend you make a backup of your phone.
Make a backup of your NVRAM as well.
good luck
Hi jammo !
for the notifications I suggest you DynamicNotification (the Premium version has more features).
For the custom ROM I suggest you one of the roms at the link below:

Good luck :-)
Thanks for your reply guys.
I tried those things cache ,data dynamicnotifications still no luck. Yep I seen those ROMs that you mentioned. I'm still on the same ROM from when I bought a few days ago.
First I need to make a backup of my current ROM
Then flash a new one.
Another question I have is there's other custom ROMs like cyanogenmod, paranoid android and wondering if I'm compatible to use them?
Also I don't know which ROM I'm currently on I tried looking on settings , about phone but couldn't tell.
Anyways I'll keep you updated & thanks again for your help guys
The custom ROM I linked to is a CM11. Looks like it was originally modded for w200s and ported for your phone. You'll need to retrofit those kinds of Roms to use with your phone specifically. But at least that one is a CM already fitted to your phone.
You can also try doing a factory reset to see if it fixes the play store issue.
Or if you want, you can try the method I mentioned. You need to install a file manager app like es file explorer. Navigate to /etc and look for hosts file.
First try to open it in a text editor and see if there is a second line. If there is, add a # at the beginning of the line. Save the file and reboot.
If that doesnt work, try to delete the entire hosts file and reboot your phone. It should be rewritten upon rebooting. Then see if the no connection problem disappears.
Again, I just read these methods. I haven't tried them, so do them at your own risk.
Tried to delete hosts file even to delete content using es file explorer & it wouldn't let me.
Another question there's a few other custom android roms not stock ones but cyanogenmod and paranoid android are these compatible to work on the tcl s720 or is this gonna be a trial & error?
Hi !
To backup your current rom (save the backup on microSD inside your phone) I suggest you to try this:
Easy Magic PhilZ Touch Installer for MediaTek Devices ONLY (6.57.9.zip )
To delete or modify everything try to install together these apps (file manager):
"File Explorer" and "File Explorer (Root Add-On)"
and then, tap "System (root)" and tap "mount read-write".
The custom Roms have to be made for your phone...otherwise it will get messed up.
Don't use that recovery...its for thl5000 you can get
bricked
See in the tutorials to make a full ROM backup. If rooted this

And here is for making cwm or twrp for your phone to make data backup....

Dear tiefighter_85 ,
desolated to inform you that the PhilZ Touch 6 cwm works very well on a stock phone rooted too.
I've tried it on my phone (MPIE G7) and it's the only recovery that has saved my phone when it was bricked. When I give any advice to someone, ALWAYS I test it before !
Kind Regards

The OP is talking about using a different phones recovery. The THL 5000 recovery might work on some different phones, but its more likely going to make things worse.
