Navy Prepares to Fire an Electromagnetic Aircraft Catapult on New Carrier

The Navy is preparing to launch the first ship-board tests of a new Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System designed to replace steam catapults and propel fighter jets and other aircraft off the deck of an aircraft carrier, service officials said.

Using the over-wattage of the newest nuclear generation systems on the Ford class, it should get very interesting when they begin tertiary trials on light cruise missiles.

In cutting the amount of propulsion necessary to launch this new class of missile (much like drones), it will be possible to significantly increase the number of devices, yield potential of each device, and the defensive posture of the USN capital ships - both nuclear and conventional - while simultaneously increasing range capability.

On the downside, it is the beginning of minimization in regards to non-remotely controlled aircraft and defence mechanisms.
