MEDIACOM
SmartPad Mini 3G

Model: M-MP5303G
Brand: MTK/6577
CPU+ABI: armeabi-v7a

Android: Jelly Bean 4.1.2
Kernel: 3.4.0
Build: 1.01 (03/2013)

Hi everyone! I crawled the web seeking guides and tutorials to root this phone. Finally after several unsuccessful tries I stopped here begging for your help... Crying
This is a dual SIM phone, I've tried almost any root procedures as: Bin4ry, DooMLoRD, SuperOneClick but with no avail...
I started following the MTKDroidTools path but when I've to use SP Flash Tool to extract the stock ROM I get an error because the "MT6577 VCOM port" disappears almost instantly...
I've installed the drivers for ADB Device and MTK Preloader correctly, no exclamation mark in Device Manager...
I'm lost...

Thank to any kind soul that will reply... Big Grin
Those quick root tools usually won't work with JB. Please try the auto/easy/quick roots in this thread: [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]
YES!
Finally I've control over my own phone!
For this model worked the easy method D...
But now I need a little more help...
After applying the method D were installed also two china apps... One was the "China Super User" that after disable and using "MTK Tools" to push "SuperSU" went away... The other one is an app that has no weight, everything is 0 B into the properties, I can only kill it and not disable, someone knows what's the purpose of this app or how to uninstall??
I also need some help into making a custom recovery with "MTK Tools", I would like to install CWM. I read the guides but "SP Flash Tools" are required in the process, but I've this annoying problem that the "VCOM port" appears only for a couple of seconds and then "SP Flash Tool" goes into error...
BTW I've already made a backup of my stock ROM... Tongue

Thank you!

EDIT: Just installed Root App Delete from Google Play and into the system apps list the details of that unknown app are:

com.mediatek.factorymode
/system/app/FactoryMode.bak

For now I've just disabled it... I don't know if it's safe to remove, seems a backup made by the root tool. Maybe for unroot purposes?
Anyway I got rid of that annoying Facebook...
HappyHappyHappy
Make a backup of that app with Titanium or similar. Then remove it and make sure your phone is good. What's the name of it?

Are you using Windows 7 and running Flash Tool in administrator mode?

Bye.
Did you take a look at the Windows 8 ADB thread?

Are you running Win 7 in virtual mode?

Also, .bak implies it's some sort of backup. If it's not running in the background, I'd just leave it alone.
No I haven't since drivers are installed flawlessly, no errors or strange codes in Device Manager... But I'll take a look for sure...
No was a PC of a friend of mine with Win 7...

Yup, the strange thing is that! Because going into "Settings --> Applications" when clicked upon and the properties window open I can kill or start it, but disable and all other buttons are grayed out...
For now I keep it disabled by Root App Delete, this evening I'll try to back it up with Titanium and then we'll see... Tongue
I read the Windows 8 thread...
I understood the Windows 8 thread...

BlushBlushBlush
Shame on me... Huh

I was using an old version of SP Flash Tools... Doh
Got the newer you provided in the MTK Tools section and everything went perfectly...

Now my China Phone is:

Rooted -- AFFERMATIVE
Custom Recovery CWM -- AFFERMATIVE
Custom ROM -- NEGATIVE (Maybe I'll open a new thread)

Thank you Gizbeat for your support!

Shame on me for not mentioning it earlier. I guess I always assume people are using a newer version.Dunno Though, this is a common issue. Any version that came out within the last 4 months should work okay.

Glad we got it worked out and thank you for supporting CPA.
Last report:

I've backed up that unknown app and then deleted it...
I've rebooted several times my phone and until now it seems to work as usual...
So I think it was only a backup of something made by the root program...

Bye
