8-Core MTK6592 possibly right around the corner!

It seems like only yesterday when the first MTK6589 phone came out. It heralded a new era of China smartphones where every new MTK China phone available came with at least 1GB RAM and 4GB storage, and most with 720p LCDs. While 512MB may satisfy the casual/average user, it wasn’t quite enough for power users and those who multi-task. Now there are more MTK6589 phones released than MTK6577. It seems like every day brings us a new quad-core model.

If they are talking about shipping phones in November/December then I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see them before March.

I wonder how far behind those new mobile CPUs are compared to older desktop CPUs.

Hmm... It would wouldn't surprise me either. But the pace at which new SoCs have been coming out, it wouldn't surprise me to see them before the end of the year as well. We'll have to wait and see.

The most powerful phone CPUs, such as the Octa-Core Exynos 5 is catching up. About 25% as powerful as an Intel Core i7 2600K and nearly on par with the cheaper modern CPUs. Of course that's talking MIPS. Not sure about real world performance.

And I just bought the 4 core.... great. It's amazing how fast the chinese tablets and phones progress. This year I can get quad-core for the price of a single-core last year.

if a phone has 1080p, 2gb ram, this new 8 core cpu.... and a 3000mah battery.... how long do you guys think it would last on the stock 4.2.2 jellybean .

Don't worry, it will likely be another 5-6 months minimum before these start coming out. You still have time for another MTK6589 phone before then Also, it hasn't been confirmed yet. Just leaks here and there. Though I will be very surprised to not see their next major update be an octa-core.

It will depend on the configuration. Hoping for a big-little config. That would be very good. It will be about the same as MTK6589. With a 3000mA battery you should see 8-12 hours on-screen time depending on what you're doing and screen brightness.
