Neken N5

Hi, new to the forum and couldn't find anything about the Neken N5 so thought I would add what I have worked out.

So far I have managed to get it rooted using the generic adb drivers provided by PDA desktop and I used the auto root .bat file and that worked perfectly first time.

The phone has some google apps straight out of the box but it does not apparently support google framework services - presumably this will be easily resolved by flashing a JB gapps zip via CWM. Next step is to get CWM - I believe this phone is an almost identical clone of the Star S5 so was thinking of trying the S5 CWM install not sure if I would be safer building my own CWM using the instructions on here, any thoughts?

You can try S5 recovery, though make sure you have a backup of your recovery first and build a scatter from your phone. Don't use the S5 scatter.

If you don't have backup firmware and need to read back your recovery manually, you might as well build your own CWM from the read back instead of flashing the S5 one.

Thanks - followed those instructions and now have CWM installed - it was a relatively straightforward process and pleased that i have learnt something new.

Only odd thing with this phone is volume up + power will not boot to CWM - still goes to Chinese factory menu, not a big deal as the boot to recovery from ROMmanager works just fine.

I have all the files for cwm 5 the tools needed and can build instructions....also have stock, lewa, miui, and Samsung ui builds. P M me. Working out a custom stock with go launcher and exposed framework with gravitybox .

what is the scatter file?
ill be getting a N6 soon and will try to install cwm too
