HI Everyone,
I bought this phone without knowing anything about it and what condition it was in. From what I can tell it's a MTK6589.
So when I got it I was a little surprised to see that it had no signal strength and no service provider showing when I put in a new SIM card.
I have done a lot of reading and I have rooted the phone but still the same results.
It looks like the IMEI is valid but it doesn't match the IMEI number on the back of the phone.
Also noticed that the serial number is 0123456789ABCDEF
I'm not sure what the next step is?? Or even if this phone will work in Canada.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
STP

Don't worry about serial #. That should not make any difference.
And you have IMEI, not "null" or "invalid". No problem if it doesn't match the box. It could cause a problem if the check digit doesn't match, but we will get to that later.
A lot of Samsung clones (I'm guessing that's what it is), especially if cheap ones, will not have American bands.
First thing to do is check your software frequency support. Type this into the dialer *#*#3646633#*#*. Or DL this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themonsterit.EngineerStarter&hl=en
Go to Engineer Mode ( MTK ) > Connectivity > CDS information > Radio Information on both SIMs (if dual-SIM). Let us know what bands are checked.

Hi Sniper,
In Band mode:
GSM Mode:
Only one check mark on EGSM900
Nothing else is checked.
Nothing is checked under UMTS Mode.
Cleopatra, Yes I will have a read on the thread.
Thanks to Both of you,
STP

This is why no network. Your phone only has GSM 900. You checked both SIMs? Or only single SIM phone?

The phone only has 900MHz GSM. That's why it's not working. Not sure what you paid for it, but this is fairly common with cheap clones.
