Unlocking disabled 3G bands

hello Guys,

here in Hungary we have an issue with Telenor Hungary as all the 850Mhz versions cannot make call when connected to 3g (H, H+), the call ended before starts.

Hi,
the problem you had is most probably due to the phone trying to switch to bands that are not supported.

You can try to disable band 850 from your phone by Mobile Uncle tools leaving the 2000 band only (I'm talking about UMTS bands only).
This should solve the issue

OK, forget to playing with MUT's bands, I put 101 on my iNew which is now 900MHz and can make call with Telenor-H, but I need 108's improovements. I would like to save NVRAM but cannot connect MTK DroidTools, start the soft, connect the phone but nothing happen. Can anybody help?

Are you saying you can turn a 850mhz v3 into 900mhz by flashing? If so how would you do that. I live in UK And although I have h+ symbol the speed is really slow I can not watch a YouTube video. Thank you

Yes, I just falshed the downloadable v1.0.1 20140225 version and it turned into 900MHz. But has a serious display problem on my phone with extreamly high brigthness level paired with low contrast which means everíthing is desaturated and ghosting very much.

Yesterday I gave up to save NVRAM with MTK DT cause I was unable to connect the DT with the phone. But looked into with Maui-META and it seems it has only WG modem set with Band1 and Band8. (Band 8 should be WCDMA-GSM900) Maybe we should figure out how to change that Band6 in 800MHz phone to Band8 with Maui-META.

Are you talking about enabled engineer mode checkbox for UMTS900?
Or are you connected to 900Mhz tower and surfing with 3G?
Because, if you only see it enabled, it doesn't mean anything. Try it on the real network.
I can enable all of the bands, but that doesn't mean I made it a world-phone by doing that.

Things changed with 101 ROM
1. baseband is 2014.02.25 (the same as in the 900/2100 hw)
2. MUT showed the 850 and 850 cmr band inactive but 900 wcdma-gsm band active
3. I was able to manage call (in/out) while the phone showed H+
4. I was able to surf the net much faster than in Edge mode, is is 3G? Should be.
5. the display driver is bad

And a question, you said be able to enable all the bands, how can you do this? please share it.

I've done some exhaustive testing regarding the subject of this thread, and I'm pretty sure WCDMA850-enabled phones can't operate in UMTS900 mode because it lacks proper hardware. I also flashed the newer baseband firmware from WCDMA900 v1.0.1 dated 25 February, but that didn't changed anything (except slower network registering).

Regarding enabling of all basebands, I've already written some posts on previous thread pages, so please take a look at them so I don't repeat myself. The only part I didn't explained before was low-level NVRAM hex-editing (not recommended for newbies), which is needed for other bands enabling. But as I already said, you gain nothing by doing that, because the phone will still operate according to its capabilities (without 3G on 900Mhz).

What is the nvram hex editing, perhaps that's what I am missing as just using different modems doesn't even give different options.

Believe it or not, it happend. It is not matter of belief.
I don't know which network the phone used but I assume it used the 2100MHz for 3G.
Facts:
- with 108 the wcdma-gsm 900 band is inactive but the other two 850 band is active in the umts section
- with 101 the wcdma-gsm 900 band is active but the 850 bands are inactive
- IMT 2000 is active in both rom version.
- the Telenor-Hungary 3G is 2100MHz operating
- the Telenor SIM can not make call with turned on 3G and active H(+) network with the 108 rom, only with the 101.

Maybe the 900 vs 850 bands presence is not in connection with the Telenor bug and there is other NVRAM modification in the ROM's IMT-2000 section which solve the Telenor bug.

So you may have truth. I will check others in Hungary who is connected to Vodafone Hungary which uses 900MHz for 3G if ist it works or not under 101 rom on 850 HW version.


I think you know the NVRAM editing well. I am thinking on a solution would you give your opinion?
I checked the two V3.ini file inside which attached to META tool GPS patch. I realised that the V3-W.ini has UMTS band1-band5-band6. The V3-E.ini has UMTS band1-band8. The band8 is the very seeked wcdma-gsm900 band.
I downloaded that V3-E.ini to the NVRAM with META but I haven't got the band8. Maybe I did something wrong with META. Would you give some advice?

Changing just the modem firmware won't get the thing going as the bands settings are stored in nvram, and these settings don't have any effects if the hardware isn't capable of doing what these settings are set to. I would recommend you quit thinking about nvram hex editing, because you can seriously damage your phone by inappropriately changing the band offsets. And afterall, why would you go through all that torture when I already tried it, and really - it doesn't have any effect (although the UMTS900 option is checked in engineering mode).

I agree. You've probably been on 2100mhz network. To be completely sure whether you're on 900mhz network, go to the place where only 900mhz-enabled network tower is present, and switch your network from GSM/WCDMA (auto) to WCDMA-only. If you have no signal, that clearly tells you can't receive 900mhz signal. Otherwise - I would be utterly baffled, to say the least.

Define "active". Active as enabled in engineering mode, or active as surfing on UMTS900? In the case of the latter, that's true only for WCDMA900 version. But both versions can have it enabled in engineering mode.

I would like to know that too. But I'm pretty sure the results will come out as negative.

You mean Maui Meta tool? I haven't played with it at all. If your phone is still alive, I guess you didn't do anything wrong But if it changes nvram in any way, I would say you would end up with an effect as same as mine - software will think it is WCDMA900 enabled, but hardware won't know how to switch to that frequency, because it's not capable of doing so.

too bad, the phone is really nice but their customer support sucks big time.
which just comes to show that it really pays off to pay a little more and get a better brand phone like ThL, XIaomi, Lenovo and such.
but since i have the inew now and am generally pleased with it that is not really pressing for me right now
