Okay, that's your choice. I could care less as long as the phone is otherwise decent.
Again, don't knee jerk react. Think about it for a moment. You simply can't expect perfect $500 marketing from a $170 phone. It's not going to happen. Jiake's OS is showing their JK12 as 2GB and doesn't even have a website, let alone an English one and you just bought 3 Jiakes.

It does make difference if it is KitKat or not. KitKat can use RAM more efficiently which in this case does really matter. DG550 has only 1GB of RAM and when I was considering to buy this phone, I thought that it will be working fine in combination of KitKat and 1GB of RAM. But when they changed it to non-existent 4.2.9 I really was disappointed.

It means exactly what I said. You just purchased a phone from a manufacturer who has put out the JK12 with an OS that shows it as having 2GB when it's only 1GB... Said manufacturer doesn't even have a website to market it's products... Let alone an English one.
You're getting a lot more out of Doogee than most other mid-priced China brands in regards to marketing and catering to the west.
Where did you get your specs...The official Jiake website? No, because it doesn't exist.
You would return the phone if they advertised the phone as having 4.4 but didn't come with 4.4, I wouldn't give a hoot. That's what makes the world go round.
Should Doogee improve their behavior and marketing practices. Of course...Though I am amazed they even got the front marketing page changed knowing China brands. Let's not make Doogee out to be terrible or horrible. If that's the case, then Jiake is down in the pooper, iNew is in the slums, and THL is in the gutter.

JIAKE has a very nice website, and their product has correct specs, as far as I can see.
I got my specs from their website.

Android JB runs fine on 1GB. No different than 2GB other than apps staying in memory. I'd love to make a huge wager you'd never know the difference between KitKat with 1GB and JB with 1GB in regards to performance. Of course it's impossible to do that bet. But if we could, I'd probably be walking away a richer man.

My Thl w100 has 1GB of RAM and it runs Jelly Bean. Guess what? It is not enough for me. Dunno how better kitkat would handle this 1GB, but it definitely would be better. And about this bet... you would have lost it

Okay. You got me there. I didn't realize they had an official website. I wouldn't call it even close to nice, but it looks accurate from the little I've perused it.
My point still stands that I couldn't care less if the phone came with KitKat or not. And I certainly wouldn't return it for that fact. Especially now they've changed the front page. Though what the heck 4.2.9 is, I have no clue.
What I do care about is will the ROM be stable. Will the battery charge fully. Will the GPS work well. Will the speakers and mics be bug free. Will the WiFi be proper and get a good signal. That's what makes a phone. Not if it has KitKat or no.

Haha, you also noticed this 4.2.9? I guess it is just normal jelly bean 4.2.2 with edited build.prop to show 4.2.9. Doogee really likes to do this on their phones. But imho they should not do that.

If we could make the bet that you'd be able to tell the difference between 1GB JB and 1GB KitKat. I guarantee you you'd be walking away a poorer man.
In what regards is 1GB not enough for you? I'm genuinely interested. I can tell you that in my experience, 1GB and 2GB phones don't run any differently. The only difference is that sometimes my tabs will fall out of memory in Chrome more often. There is no other discernible difference.
