There are a couple of threads dedicated to this and a lot of users tried it, but no success.
It looks like it is hardware related issue.
offtop, but the new 1.0.6wcdma900 ROM made a 2100/900 phone from my 850/2000 phone. That healed the "3G/call ended" bug and others confirmed that it works on real 900MHz network too. So, it is not hardwer releated issue.
Just showing 900 in Engineering mode means nothing. This baseband/ROM swap has been extensively tested by @burs .
We would love to see proof of the actual working 900. If you have turned your 850/2100 phone into a 900/2100 phone, please provide the proof. That can be done by providing a high-res video with no cuts showing the turning off / deselecting of 2100 in MTK engineering mode. Rebooting the phone and showing only 900 WCDMA in engineering mode checked, then connecting to the net and showing H+/H.
Until this can be shown, it remains just a rumor.
In my country only Vodafone uses 900MHz for 3G but I have not Voda SIM. On of our local forum member has Voda SIM and he tested:
- Voda uses 2100 in the urban area and 900 in the countryside
- He used 850 type phone and when left the urban area the 3G gone
- He flashed over with the 1.0.6wcdma900 version (he uploaded that to needrom)
- He did the same trip and the Voda SIM had 3G in the countryside area with the new rom
Plus:
- We encounter the 3G=cannot call bug with Telenor SIM, who is uses only 2100 (theoreticaly) and after the 1.0.6wcdma900 upgrade this bug is swept away.
- I think maybe Telenor uses 2100 for 3G data and 900 for call in case of active data connection... I dont know, just thinking on ...
Anyway, I do not need to give a proof to anybody. You can download the 1.0.6wcdma900 from needrom, fell free to flash it and test it, it costs nothing. You need the proof do it for yourself
