Rooting Cubot P7
#21
No. Did you stop midway through the tutorial?
Look at step 16 onwards [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]

You need to process the ROM readback file using MTK Droid Tools.

If Droid Tools does not offer to create CWM, use the Recovery and Boot function. Choose the boot image that was made during the processing of the ROM readback.
It will ask to install the patched boot file, say NO.
Then it will ask to install CWM, allow Droid Tools to install it.

Yes, sorry. That's what II meant!! I've attached a print Screen of the Droid Root Tool window where it says Task Complete. I assumed then that CWM would have been created and installed.

Okay, now you locate P7_140905__recovery_141206_114130.img
Copy that to a New Folder, and rename the file as recovery.img
Make sure to copy it to a different folder, otherwise, you could delete your stock recovery if you overwrite it.
Also copy your working scatter map to the New Folder you created.

Go back to Flash Tool. Load the scatter map from the New Folder. It should show that only recovery is ticked. Make sure of that.
Click Download. It might give you a warning that not all parts of the firmware are ticked. Just ignore the warning and proceed with flashing.
You should see a red, purple, and yellow status bar. At the end of the flash, a green check mark should appear.

Now boot into recovery mode and see if you are now using CWM recovery.
If you are, choose to install zip from sd card. Install SuperSU.

OK. So I think I've done as you said but nothing's happening when I click Download. I've attached another image to make sure I'm getting this right.

No, No.
The New folder should just include two files. The new recovery file that you renamed recovery.img and the scatter file. Just those two files.
Why does recovery.img seem to be a folder?

And I specifically indicated flashing ONLY the recovery image. Even your preloader is ticked in your screenshot. You NEVER flash a preloader unless absolutely necessary.

Go to your Desktop. Create a New Folder.
Copy the new recovery.img file to that New Folder.
Copy the scatter file to that New Folder.
Open SP Flash Tool, and load the scatter file from the New Folder.
The recovery partition should be ticked.
Make sure that ONLY the recovery is ticked.
No ticks in Preloader, EBR1, EBR2, MBR, etc.

OK. This is what I get now - see attachment.
Should I tick the Recovery box, because it is not ticked automatically.

Are you sure you have the recovery.img file in the folder? it should be added automatically.
Is that a new scatter file? Look at the contents of the scatter, you should see this somewhere in there:

Show Content

check to see if the file_name: recovery.img is the same.
if not, rename the recovery.img file that you put in the New Folder to whatever is written in the scatter.
Will check back tomorrow

I think I know what's going wrong with just this part - it's YOUR scatter file so the Flash Tool can't consolidate it with my phone and so no recovery image, if you see what I mean!!

However, that doesn't explain why nothing can read my scatter file. Even the alternative Flash Tool won't do it (yet another screen print to show what it does. I clicked twice so it duplicated). Simply put, it won't create backups, recovery image or CWM.

Could it be my drivers? Device Manager says drivers are up to date, and I can't find anything online anyway!!

Start again?!!

So, tell me in idiot's language what to do please!! Step by step, don't assume I know anything. There's no rush.

I really do appreciate your help and patience.

The reason I am asking you to check the scatter file is because it is possible that droid tools regenerated one during processing of the read back. For one thing, it shows the scatter filename with a (1) which means it was in a folder with a duplicate.
Spft will just read the scatter file. It will look for the file names indicated in the scatter file. Send me your scatter file and new recovery.img.
The scatter I gave you is working. Stick with that

Okay, I downloaded a boot image and stock recovery of your phone. Created a patched recovery with MTK DT. I renamed the patched recovery to recovery.img and used the scatter file I gave you.
It loads fine with Flash tool.
Look at the screenshot and see what discrepancies there are with your setup.
