Ancient dental plaque: A 'Whey' into our milk drinking past?

We drink milk because it is good for us, but we rarely stop to think "Why?" Archaeologists and geneticists have been puzzling this question since it was revealed that the mutations which enable adults to drink milk are under the strongest selection of any in the human genome.

It's interesting how much you can know when reading on the Internet. I never could have guessed that adults couldn't digest milk in ancient times. I'd call the changes that made that possible evolution and not mutation.

I wasn't aware of this either. It seems quite odd since we live on milk as babies...

regarding your other point, there are some who would say that evolution happens through mutation.
