I'd love to make a huge wager you'd never know the difference between KitKat with 1GB and JB with 1GB in regards to performance. Of course it's impossible to do that bet. But if we could, I'd probably be walking away a richer man.
My Thl w100 has 1GB of RAM and it runs Jelly Bean. Guess what? It is not enough for me. Dunno how better kitkat would handle this 1GB, but it definitely would be better. And about this bet... you would have lost it
If we could make the bet that you'd be able to tell the difference between 1GB JB and 1GB KitKat. I guarantee you you'd be walking away a poorer man.
In what regards is 1GB not enough for you? I'm genuinely interested. I can tell you that in my experience, 1GB and 2GB phones don't run any differently. The only difference is that sometimes my tabs will fall out of memory in Chrome more often. There is no other discernible difference.
No I would not. I have seen with my own eyes how KitKat uses RAM more efficiently.
Well that you have mentioned Chrome, for me it is not "sometimes". For me it is ALWAYS. When I browse internet using my phone, I always have like 10-15 tabs opened. Moreover, this one time when I was recording (someone was playing James Bond theme on organ - really wanted to record it), and then a stupid pop-up came saying "not enough memory" and I had to close all the apps, so I skipped like half of that nice music! Anyway, there are a few more situations where I had a lack of RAM.

You just purchased a phone from a manufacturer who has put out the JK12 with an OS that shows it as having 2GB when it's only 1GB... Said manufacturer doesn't even have a website to market it's products... Let alone an English one.
You're getting a lot more out of Doogee than most other mid-priced China brands in regards to marketing and catering to the west.
Where did you get your specs...The official Jiake website? No, because it doesn't exist.
You would return the phone if they advertised the phone as having 4.4 but didn't come with 4.4, I wouldn't give a hoot. That's what makes the world go round.
But let's not make Doogee out to be terrible or horrible. If that's the case, then Jiake is down in the pooper, iNew is in the slums, and THL is in the gutter.
JIAKE has a very nice website, and their product has correct specs, as far as I can see.
I got my specs from their website.
You need JIAKE website address in English?
http://www.jiakephone.com/?site_language=english
This is direct link for v8 specs.
http://www.jiakephone.com/product/product-51.html
Okay. You got me there. I didn't realize they had an official website. I wouldn't call it even close to nice, but it looks accurate from the little I've perused it.
My point still stands that I couldn't care less if the phone came with KitKat or not. And I certainly wouldn't return it for that fact. Especially now they've changed the front page. Though what the heck 4.2.9 is, I have no clue.
What I do care about is will the ROM be stable. Will the battery charge fully. Will the GPS work well. Will the speakers and mics be bug free. Will the WiFi be proper and get a good signal. That's what makes a phone. Not if it has KitKat or no.
If I bought the phone today with current specs, I agree I wouldn't care if it had kitkat or not, however my point is if I had bought the phone advertised as having kitkat, and I received the phone without kitkat I would return it.
From reading everywhere the mt6592 is supposed to have a very accurate GPS, and yes GPS is very important to me as well.
Anyway this is just a personal choice, lets see if any other specs change, and how well the phone performs, should be out by end of month.

yeah vampiro has the point in the fact it was falsely advertised, but other than that it would make little difference to me about the OS, its quite likely it will get kitkat eventually seeing as MTK has released the source code for thingy

KitKat is full of bugs. 4.4.3 just released fixes 36+ bugs from 4.4.2. That's not to say that JB doesn't have some bugs as well. Hopefully if MTK phones start to come with KitKat, they come with 4.4.3.

Doogee in their official statement say that DG550 has JB because it was released a month earlier than originally planned. And, that KitKat will be available via OTA around the time the normal release was planned, i.e. sometime in late May, early June.
If you consider this a false advertising then you have to read more offer descriptions on AliExpress... false advertising galore...
BTW, I was waiting for the JB upgrade on my Sony Xperia S for months. They moved their deadline three times. The same story happened with many Samsung models, HTC, LG, many, many others. Is it a big deal? I consider it non-existent. You wait a month and you get what you want. You cannot wait? Stop complaining, buy something else. Show these capitalists what counts....

It is released with KitKat now "4.2.9" is only a code that it is a modified ROM by an outsider not from factory (modified factory ROM). I used to code my ROM for 4.2.2 as "4.2.9" to denote the same thing.
But I am worried more about the firmware support, it is nowhere to be found 4.2.2 or 4.4.2 , it was the same with LENOVO A880/A889 firmware a few months back. There was none until we get our hands on a useless copy from China we preroot it and put in GApps and now it is used on both the A880/A889 with customs TWRP (only the camera resolution is different but everything else is the same between the two.) No homemade CWM is recomended.
I cant seem to find any copy to download the DG550 firmware could someone point me in the right direction?
I just gave away my LENOVO A880 to my daughter after finishing the development work on the firmware. It is 100% stable as any phone shpuld be unlike when it was on the Chinese firmwware it keeps losing 3G every 15 minutes/ losing SMS service/losing network cant call out unless reboot (afterwards it loses its signal again)it was a nightmare. Nonsense chinese firmware!! I hope this DOGEE DG550 isnt like that since it said somewhere that it came with GApps.

there is none as the phone hasn't been released, once phone gets into people hands, backups will be made and then firmware will be available.
I wish lenovo made cheap USA phones, I would like to have their phones, I have a lenovo tablet, and it's great, lenovo service support is tops.

At this time the phone isn't released so they still have time to put kitkat on it.
Well, I'm quite sure I just mentioned that. Yes, it doesn't look so great for them if they advertise that. But be careful what you expect from mid China brands. THL doesn't even have specs up on some of their most popular phones. Check out the THL W200S spec page: http://en.thl.com.cn/product/w200s.html.
Doogee is light years ahead of most mid-range China brands in terms of marketing and they aren't even a year old yet. They at least have an English based website with specs up on all of their models, even if there are some inconsistencies.
Remember who we're dealing with here and compare apples to apples. Buy a $400+ phone from a top-brand China make, or a $800 phone from Samsung or iPhone and you're sure to get the service you expect and deserve. Buy a $170 phone, something has to be sacrificed along the way. They have at least changed the specs on the front page (but unfortunately not in the specs page).
Don't knee jerk react. Take a minute and think about it.
Am I excusing Doogee? Yes. Somewhat.
Should they strive to improve and could they do better? No doubt.
Will I let the fact that they advertised 4.4 but it doesn't end up having it keep me from buying it assuming it's otherwise a good phone? No way. By the way,not only english, they got SPANISH and CHINESE OK

I am on the DOGEE dagger DG550 forum because I was at the cross road of purchasing my next phone after finishing the firmware development (just a hobbyist) on LENOVO A880/A889 MTK 6582 Quads , I got an offer from an adverstiser who offerd a good price for DG550 (purpotely) loaded with KItKat ROM this is Octacore but then I consulted with my partner in crime from Russia we decided to go with a LENOVO S939 MTK6592 Octa Core for our next project (making better firmware/root it/AOSP).
Although I kinda of like the brochures and the looks of the Dg550 it is so thin and sleek but we will go with the mainstream S939 another 6inch phablet the A880/A889 was also 6inch phablet.
