Mlais is one of the older brands making China phones. While not so well known to the West prior to the Mlais M52 release, they are well known to budget phone lovers in China.
The Mlais M52 was a successful launch for the company, and while the battery life could be a bit better, for the price the phone was a winner. What I really liked about that phone was that they stuck with 720P.
They also launched the Mlais M9, a budget MT6592 SoC phone that retailed for $90. This too was a winner for those looking for an ultra budget phone.
Not content to sit on their heals, and in addition to the Mlais M4, Mlais will also be releasing two new models -- the Mlais M7 and Mlais MX.
Mlais M7 details:
- MT6752 SoC
- LTE 4G support
- 5.5"@720P OGS IPS display
- 3GB RAM
- Touch finger print reader
- 8MP front/13MP rear cameras (likely interpolated)
- Android 5.0
I really like what Mlais is doing here with the 720P in an otherwise highly specced phone. This keeps cost and heat down, and significantly improves battery life. Very much looking forward to giving the M7 a review to see if it can improve upon the already quite good Mlais M52.
Mlais MX details:
- MT6732 SoC
- 5.0 IPS display
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB Storage
- 4800mAh battery
Looking at the SoC of the Mlais MX, it's likely intended to be a very budget model, but if the battery is truly 4800mAh it could drive price up into the $150 range.
Resolution of the Mlais MX isn't yet known, but will likely be 720P, as with the M7, M9 and M52. |

And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
If you're betrayed, release disappointment at once.
By that way, the bitterness has no time to take root.

I like where these guys are going.
I am very curious as to the quality of the camera. If they can nail that, they will be pushing others aside at good price points.

I really like what Mlais is doing as well. It's a huge statement that these guys are putting out MT6752 phones with 720P displays. I've said it often, but it really makes a huge difference in regards to price/heat/battery life/performance. I have yet to review a 1080P phone with good battery life, and none of them have been as smooth as 720P in terms of the *feel* when navigating Android and transition animations, and really 1080P simply isn't needed on 5.5" or smaller devices. Yes, it adds a certain quality of "retina" to the display, but being that 720P looks very good, this extra step up in smoothness just isn't worth it for the losses. Unfortunately, most manufacturers and consumers are jumping on bigger is better, same as with camera MP. So, most of the more powerful phones are coming with 1080P now.

Man, this whole new wave of 64-bit phones has me wanting to buy everything. I already have the M52, which is a hell of a phone (and could be even better if they'd fix the bugs), but I've had my sights set on the Elephone P7000.... until now. The Mlais M7 looks like it could be quite the competitor. I really like the support Mlais has given to the M52 crowd as well. They're buying some major points from me as a consumer right now with all they're doing. My hats off to the company. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an awesome (and powerful and cheap) future for us all.

New M7 pics added to the preview on Gizbeat. Looks like will have a similar type fingerprint "touch" scanner as Elephone P7000.

Seeing that companies are making phones with huge batteries seems to be a huge win for consumers. I'd easily trade off some bulk in exchange for a phone that I won't have to question whether or not it will last me through a day of heavy use. Way to go to these guys for getting that right!
